If you missed the Pops Concert last Thursday night you really did miss a great show and a great deal of talent. The program was billed as "Through the Decades" and that's just what they delivered. The Music Boosters had asked lo- cals to donate any memorabilia they could to help set the atmosphere to the right note. Tables were set up for families to get a better view and all around immersive experi- ence. Money from the tables being reserved went to help the music de- partment. No matter what era you grew up in the students at GTRA made you feel like you were back in high school and you found yourself singing along with your favorites. The band sounded great do- ing melodies of Beach Boys tunes as well as those from Queen. The group is directed by Emily Doerder Pops Concert “Through the Decades” and she has a great deal to be proud of. The group has great sound and volume and made you want to get up and dance to your favorites. Anne Sexe directs the choir and both the concert choir and jazz choir came to put on a show. The jazz choir did several selections from those they have been performing at contest. Dominick Locantore, Josh- ua Griffin, Fischer Morris-McE- wan, Emily Miller, Christine Kor, Madison Petersen, and MaKenzie Depyper make up the Jazz Choir and each were able to show the au- dience their great talents during the show. The concert choir also did a great job singing a sample of several de- cades of music from Rock Around the Clock, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Fireflies and Staying Alive, in which Fischer Morris-McEwan sang the high part made famous by Barry Gibbs to everyone’s enjoy- ment. The music department at GTRA has a busy spring lined up. April 6th will be state solo and small ensem- ble contest; April 23 is the elemen- tary concert; Fine Arts Concert is the 29th of April, May 3rd is Large Group Contest and the Middle School Concert is the 7th of May. Be sure to try ot make one or more of these musical items as their is much talent in the GTRA school and it is not to be missed. Craig Merrill, Chairman Carmen Moser, County Auditor published March 13, 2019 Palo Alto County Sheriff Department Report On March 3 at 6:15 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office investi- gated a single vehicle accident in the 4400 blk 280 St. A 2003 Chevy Impa- la, driven by Sonia Chitic Aguilar of Estherville was east bound at 4486 280 St. and struck a snowdrift which caused Aguilar to entered the north ditch. On March 3 at 6:05 am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office investi- gated a single vehicle accident in which a 2010 Chevy, driven by Pablo Ruiz of Spencer was east bound at 4486 280 St and collided with a snow drift, causing Ruiz to loss control and enter the north ditch. The Chevy sustained $3500.00 in damage in the accident and no injuries were reported. On Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 9:40 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office arrested Bethany Jo Anderson (48), of Mason City on a valid Palo Alto County warrant for contempt of court, failure to pay fines, on original charges of burglary 3rd degree and forgery = both class D felonies. Bail was set in the amount of $500.00 cash only. Anderson was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail. Anderson was unable to post bail and was subsequently booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await her initial appearance before a magistrate. On March 1 at 2:58 p.m., the Palo Alto County Communication Center received a call concerning a vehicle traveling south on 450 Ave from High- way 4 that was being driven all over the road. The Palo Alto County Sher- iff's Office located the vehicle in the 4000 blk of Highway 4 and initiated a traffic stop. Following an investigation the driver of the vehicle, Kayla Re- nee Nolette, (28 of Arnolds Park was arrested for possession of a controlled substance; marijuana, 1st offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nolette was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail. “A Criminal Charge is Merely an Accusation, and the Defendant is Pre- sumed Innocent Until and Unless Proven Guilty.” Ruthven City Council Meeting March 5, 2019 - 6:30 PM The Ruthven City Council, of the City of Ruthven, Iowa, met on the 5th Day of March, 2019, at 6:30 PM, in regular session, in Council Chambers at City Hall, pursuant to law and to the rules of said council. Mayor Kirk shared with council that the public hearing on the Fire Department/City lease for “Old Thunderbird” property will be moved to the May 7, 2019 city council meeting as the Fire Department had not heard back from their attorney regarding the lease. Public Hearing Notice will be published again before the May 7th council meeting.

Mayor Kirk declared the public hearing open at 6:46 p.m. for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Annual Budget. No objectors were present or filed written objections to the City Clerk, so the public hearing was declared closed at 6:48 p.m.

Public Works Superintendent Conlon shared with council that there were two recent water line leaks that popped up in the city. First one was on Highland St. and was on the city line and is now fixed. The second was on Washington St. and prop-erty owner’s side of the curb stop and was fixed this morning.

Motion Johnson, second Simington to ap-prove purchase of a voting machine for the City of Ruthven through PACGDC Grant Fund money and to give Mayor Kirk ability to work with County Auditor Moser on the purchase of a machine and lease to county for their use if ever necessary. Discussion was held on a contest to design a City Seal/Crest that can be used as the Official Seal of Ruthven, for letterhead and other documents and to put on city hall wall etc. The contest will be advertised for school students and residents within Ruthven city limits and will be judged by the city council. Clerk Tatman was instructed to get advertisement and rules ready to start the contest as soon as it is possible.
