Friends in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy

Spirit! May usually brings about schedule changes. Soon we won’t be seeing school bus-

ses driving through town; instead, we’ll hear laughter and chitter-chatter from the outdoor

pool area. Kids will be riding their bikes around town, and the ball parks will be filled with

people. Summer has finally arrived! For many of us, those schedule changes translate into

a much less hasty schedule. We might even get a trip in here and there to see family and

friends near and afar. I would like to extend my heartfelt blessings to you as you engage

on your summer schedules.

Trinity’s family of faith also has changes, and I would like to take this

opportunity to share with you about those changes and what they mean for you.

The first changes I would like you to know about are staff changes. Aly Bruna

has joined our office staff as the part time receptionist and multimedia manager

as of March 15. She is the welcoming face when you enter through the doors, and the friendly voice that answers the

phone when you call. Aly generally works Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and all day Friday. She also implements

and oversees all multimedia outlets. Positive changes are on their way, such as having the church at your fingertips.

Please watch for details as they evolve. We will keep you updated via traditional print materials and via all of our multi-

media outlets. Aly and her husband Devon are also expecting their first daughter, Riley, in June. We are all already excit-

ed to welcome Riley to the office and Trinity’s family of Faith.

Another new staff member is Alex Eykamp. Alex will be our part time organist and music coordinator. Alex has

an extensive resume in organ and music performance and was a student of Colleen Tucker’s as a high school student.

He moves back to his home territory from Tallahassee, FL, where he finishes his doctorate soon, to serve us part-time

and accept another full time position in the area. Please come and listen to Alex’s talent starting on July 1st. With that

being said, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Donna Matthison, Monica Pickard and Kim Wermers who so

gracefully have filled in as our organists for the past five months. Please take a moment to thank those ladies for their

faithful service and willingness to share their time and talent with our family of faith.

I would also like to invite all of you, as you might change your church attendance habits during the summer

months, to remember that bills at Trinity will still need to be paid and staff still is on the payroll. Your offering is of vital

importance. If you are unable to physically drop off your financial support as mission and ministry continues, please con-

sider electronic giving. Marlys Schmidt would be delighted to help you sign up for electronic giving, so you’ll never miss

an offering and mission and ministry is not in jeopardy. Thank you for giving it prayerful consideration.

Finally, look for our annual “summer project” in this edition of the Trinity Tidings. All I want to give away at this

time is: “Don’t forget to take the church with you as you enjoy your summer…”

Summer joy,

Pastor Constanze

Health Tips for MAY

MAY Mission of the Month

TRINITY CAMPERSHIP FUND

Many of us, as members of Trinity or our families, warmly recall the experiences we or our children had during their time at Bible Camp. The opportunity and interactions with counselors and other youth is of-ten recalled as a “life changing” and deeply personal spiritual experience.

For many years, Trinity has been helping our youth go to Bible Camp by providing assistance to help cover the cost for a week at one of our Lutheran Outdoor Bible Camps. For some of our youth, allocated funds are made available to pay for part of the registration fee. The “Campership Fund” at Trinity has been depleted in the last few years because we have had so many youth wanting to go to Bible Camp, rising costs at the camps and financial concerns of some families in our fellowship.

Please consider a donation during the month of May to the Trinity Campership Fund or sponsor one of our youth to enable them to go to Bible Camp. Thank you for supporting and giving a gift designated to the Mission of the Month.

For questions, please call the church office 605-256-2771.

These wonderful insights came from Andy Rooney (ex-60 Minutes, USA):

I’ve learned that the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person. I’ve learned that having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feel-

ings in the world. I’ve learned that just one person saying to me, ‘You’ve made me day!’ makes my day. I’ve learned that being kind is more important that being right. I’ve learned that you should never say no to a gift from a child. I’ve learned that I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help

him/her in some other way. I’ve learned that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to under-

stand. I’ve learned that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it

goes. I’ve learned that we should be glad God doesn’t give us everything we ask for. I’ve learned that when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person

continue to hurt you. I’ve learned that love, not time, heals all wounds. I’ve learned that no one is perfect until you fall in love with them. I’ve learned that when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere. I’ve learned that one should keep his/her words both soft and tender, because tomorrow

he/she may have to eat them. I’ve learned that a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I hope some of these make you smile and that most of them will motivate you to be kinder this week. It will make you a healthier person.

June 10-19. 2016- HS Mission Trip to Cumberland Mountains in Tennessee.

Take the church with you this summer “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11. With the warm, delightful weather that summer brings, it’s hard not to get busy during the months of June, July, and August! If we are lucky, we get to escape Madison, South Dakota for a day, a week, or even a whole month and explore the world. If you are one of these adventure seekers, or you’re just busy with activities, it’s difficult to make it to Trinity every weekend. Have no fear! This summer, Trinity has created a campaign where you don’t have to leave the church behind. Similar to last summer’s Flat Jesus project, Trinity will be handing out flat churches that can tag along with you during your vacations and activities throughout the summer months. Most flat church-es have already been colored by the youth, but you can choose an uncolored church to decorate yourself! The church is Trinity’s steeple on a popsicle stick. Instructions have been printed on the back so you know exactly what to do, but here are the rules: 1. Take the church with you this summer! 2. Snap a picture of yourself holding Trinity while out of town, on vacation, or simply having summer fun. 3. Upload the picture to www.facebook.com/tlcmadison OR post it to Instagram tagging @tlcmadison (#tlcmadison) 4. The photo that gets the most likes will be awarded a prize on Rally Sunday! Flat churches will be handed out on Sunday, May 8th. There will also be a booth at Miracle Treat Day! The staff at TLC would like to give you a big thanks for taking the church with you this summer!

Quilt Raffle

May 2016 Page 13

A beautiful, hand crafted, full size quilt has been donated to TLC Youth by Sherri Dubbelde from Viborg, SD. The youth will be selling raffle tickets - $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets in the Narthex. Tickets can also be purchased by contacting Sandy Rhode at the church office or Jennifer Briggs at 480-1870.

TLC Youth will be selling baked goods and plants as a fundraiser on May 8th for their summer mission trip to Tennessee

As part of our mission project this summer, we are responsible for bringing some tools we will need to complete our projects…and there are a lot of them on the list! We are reaching out to our Trinity family to help us acquire these tools and supplies. The Tool Tree is located in the Narthex and contains tags with a "tool" / item(s) and the number of those that are needed. They do not have to be new tools and we plan to return the tools when we return if you desire. Please consider helping us out - digging through your tool shed for tape measures, hammers, extension cords, paint supplies, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. Some items will need to be purchased - bug spray, hand wipes, wasp spray, etc. We ask that when you take a tool tag, please sign the sheet so we know who took the tag to ensure that we fulfill all of our tool obliga-tions. Thanks for your consideration and we look forward to bringing back our tools and sharing our stories with you.

You are invited to put together a Personal Care Kit for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Bags will be available in the narthex on Sunday, May 1 and Sunday, May 8 and in the church office during the week, throughout the summer. Each bag includes a list of items needed to assemble a kit. Take the bag home, fill it with requested items (lightweight bath towel, 2 bars of soap, sturdy comb, toothbrush & nail clippers) and return to church by Rally Sunday on Sunday, September 11. These kits, along with quilts made by the TLC quilters, go to LWR in the fall. From there, they are distributed to people in need throughout the world. These simple gifts of love can bring hope and comfort to someone and encourage them to start anew.
