Trinity Sunday – June 10 & 11, 2017

GOOD NEWS REFLECTION: The effect of each Person of the Trinity

On the first Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate and honor God's character as the Most Holy Trinity.

The first reading shows us the Father as he parented the baby nation of Israel. We see that he is "a merciful and

gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and faithfulness" -- the Perfect Father.

If we have difficulty seeing him this way, it's because we've never experienced a human father-figure who

showed us what perfect fatherhood looks like. Our spirits need healing. We've been projecting human imperfec-

tions onto our image of God. Even the best parents and teachers fall short of the wonderfulness of God's father-

hood. We need to consciously differentiate him from our human dads and other human authorities.

The second reading shows us the entire Trinity: the grace of Jesus, the love of the Father, and our friendly

partnership with the Holy Spirit. In this and because of this, we are to rejoice, mend our ways, and live in peace

with one another.

In other words, because Jesus bore our sins as he died on the cross and then conquered death, he provides us

with grace so that we can resist sin, and he provides us with the Father's love so that we can love one another no

matter what, and he provides us with the Holy Spirit, who fellowships with us and empowers us so that we can

continually live as holy Christians.

The Gospel reading shows us the depth of the Father's love. He doesn't condemn us for our sins; he gives us his

Son to rescue us from the destructive results of our sins. Our sins condemn us and sentence us to eternal death,

but Jesus saves us from this by taking us to eternal life -- if we want him to!

Questions for Personal Reflection:

Which Person of the Trinity do you know the least? Or feel distant from? Or fear? How have human relation-

ships interfered with your ability to feel God's closeness?

Can you help us? We are looking for volunteers from our Parish who would be willing to drive

2-3 members of the Warda family to the 11 am Sunday Mass. Their address is 405 Confederation

Drive up on South Hill. This distance is too far for some family members to walk. A signup sheet

is at the back of the Church. Please choose a date (s) that works for you! What a wonderful way

to live our Catholic faith by showing this family that we care about them and are willing to help

them! Thank you in advance for being good stewards and sharing your time to make this family feel

a part of our parish and community!

Rosary at Hilltop schedules have been prepared and are on the pamphlet rack near the church doors.

Please pick up your copy if this pertains to you. Thank you!

Upcoming Schedules: Hospitality and Senior Acolytes. We welcome members of our parish community to join

these ministries. New schedules will be prepared soon. Hospitality ministers are needed for

both Saturday and Sunday 9 AM Masses. It would be wonderful to have more senior acolytes

as well so their turns would come up less often. At the moment they serve every third week!

Please contact Wendy in the parish office prior to June 20th to sign up! All those currently

scheduled will remain on the schedule unless notice is given by June 20th.

Funeral Lunch Groups: The following groups are next in line for upcoming funerals: G5 - Fran Messer,

G4 - Donna & Renee, G3 – Marilyn & Ev.

The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved…God gave…” is the paradigm for stewardship – we give because we love.

Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia – Think About It!!

Used to describe assisted suicide and euthanasia, euphemisms such as “medical aid in dying” or “mercy kill-

ing” or “dying with dignity” imply that people who die of natural causes lack dignity, or suggest that euthana-

sia and assisted suicide are justified so long as they are done “compassionately” or with the aid of a medical

professional.
