TRESO MUZZLELOADING ACCESSORIES

Pagosa Springs, Colorado -- home of TRESO, LLC -- got its name from the naturally occuring geothermal spring that emerges near the center of town on the banks of the San Juan River. The spring discharges 150° F water at a rate of about 700 gallons per minute. The Ute Indians were one of several American Indian tribes which once claimed ownership of the Pagosa hot springs. They called the springs “pah gosah,” a term which has been variously translated in recent years as meaning “boiling water” or “healing water.” However, a Ute elder once suggested that a more accurate translation would be “water that has a strong smell.” The strong smell of the hot springs derives from its remarkably high mineral content, which many believe gives the water its naturally therapeutic value. The Native Americans of the Four Corners area staged numerous wars and skirmishes over the ownership of the springs, so highly did regard the importance of its healing powers.

GI CLEANING& LOADING ROD

In the past the "GI" onepiece steel cleaning rods, whichmade very good muzzleloadingrange rods, were readily availableat most gun shows. The availabilityseems to have dried up in recentyears; therefore TRESO hasre-introduced its version of thisfamous rod. The one-piece concepthas been retained but in severaldifferent lengths. The steel or brassshaft is 5/16" diameter with a10x32 threaded end. As on theoriginal GI model, the "T" handleswivels. TRESO has added a smallcross hole through the handle andshaft so the handle may be madenon-rotating with a piece of wire orsmall nail, allowing the use of abullet puller. With handle rotation, the cleaning patch on a jag will follow the spiral of the rifling, giving abetter cleaning action. Use standard TRESO 10x32 threaded accessorieswith the GI Rod such as the button jag, bullet puller or worm. As withall loading and cleaning rods, you should use a rod guide to protect thebore from rod wear.Sectional GI Rod: The sectional rod, in steel or brass, comes with three9” segments that can be formed into whatever length is needed--from17¼” to 44” long. It can easily be broken down to fit in a hunter’s pack.

COMBINATIONRAMROD TIP-JAG-BULLET PULLERThe base for the combination ramrod tip has a built in steel lag screw for pulling bullets or retrieving lost patches. A jag or cover can be screwed on the base over the bullet puller. All parts are brass except for the steel bullet puller screw. This is the same tips that are on the TRESO Patriot Series 82 replacement ramrods.

COMBINATION BASE COVERThese covers can be used in place of the jag to cover the bullet puller screw on the end of combination tips. This type of end was often used on the back end of old original ramrods and went down inside the stock ramrod hole.

ROD GUIDEThis handy brass ramrod guide protects the bore at the muzzle from wear during cleaning and loading. The guide touches only the crown of the bore. The conical shape allows the guide to be used with all calibers. All loading and cleaning ramrods of wood, steel and fiberglass will wear the bore with repeated use without a rod guide.

These brass button jags are for small diameter ramrods and cleaning rods where a tapered shank jag is not necessary for patch clear-ance. The jags have a spherically cupped end to allow loading a muzzleloader without removing the jag from the ramrod. This is the jag recommended for the Durango Gun Rod. All jags have a steel threaded stud.

CLEANING JAGSTRESO cleaning jags will fit the above ramrod tips and other makes with 8-32 or 10-32 threads. Jags are made from brass with a steel threaded stud to prevent the breakage that can occur with brass studded jags. These jags also feature a spherically cupped end allowing the user to load without removing the jag the from ramrod. The grooved bands around the head of the jag will firmly grip the cleaning patch.

BULLET PULLERThe TRESO bullet puller consists of a steel bullet puller lag screw with a 1/4” hexagonal collar and an attached brass disk. The brass disc has a minimum clearance in the barrel assuring the lag screw is centered over the ball and prevented from

deflecting to the side of the ball and possibly damaging the barrel bore. The hexagonal collar provides a means to remove the puller from the ramrod and/or bullet with a small wrench. These bullet pullers are avail-able with 8-32 and 10-32 threads.

AMPCONIPPLES TRESO nipples are made from Ampco, a tough alloy with a tensile strength of 118,000 psi, which is tougher than most steels used in muzzleloading barrels. This material provides more resistance to repeated blows from the hammer, and the high thermal conductivity of Ampco alloy affects a faster heat dissipation. This dissipation reduces erosion of the small base hole and assures a longer lasting nipple. All nipples have a small base hole (.028”) to greatly reduce the amount of escaping powder gases. Many muzzle loading experts feel an added benefit of the small base hole is the hot gases from the percussion cap are more concentrated and uniformly directed against the powder chamber.

TRESO MUZZLELOADING ACCESSORIES

FLINTLOCK TOUCH HOLE LINERS TRESO touch hole liners are made from the same tough and erosion resistant Ampco alloy as the TRESO nipples. The flash hole is .0625 diameter. The TRESO flint touch hole liner is installed in a 1/4” x 28 thread in the side of the barrel with a wrench. A new model, available in two thread sizes is removable with a screw driver and is handy for interchangeable flint/percussion lock firearms. We recommend anti-seize material be coated on nipple and touch hole liner threads to make them more easily removed. (Specific installation instructions are listed below. )

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (wrench model): Drill and tap the barrel for ¼x28 thread at the proper location at the breech. Slightly countersink hole with a 82° countersink. Install and note if any liner protrudes into the barrel bore; if it does, shorten inside end to appropriate length. Tighten liner securely with standard rifle nipple wrench and file flush with outside of barrel. To remove, enlarge touch hole and remove with broken bolt (easy-out) extractor.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (screwdriver model): For firearms with interchangeable flint/percussion locks, use 5/16”x24 thread and matching percussion drum (install drum and percussion lock first for proper location). Use ¼x28 thread size for touchhole only replacement applications. Drill and tap breech with appropriate thread and slightly chamfer threaded hole with 82° countersink. Install touch hole liner with screw driver. Touch hole liner should be flush with outside of barrel, if not, adjust chamfer. Check for clearance inside of bore and shorten touch hole liner if necessary.
