ENWEYING: “THE WAY WE SPEAK TOGETHER”
As a leader in Indigenous education, Trent values indigeneity and the knowledge, perspective, and voice students of Indigenous heritage bring to the Trent community.
THE FIRST PEOPLES HOUSE
OF LEARNINGLocated in the Enweying building at Gzowski College, FPHL connects to local First Nations communities and provides special services, support and a home away from home for Indigenous students from all over the world. For non-Indigenous students, it’s a place to build awareness and to become immersed in many new and traditional cultural experiences. trentu.ca/fphl
SELF-IDENTIFICATIONSelf-identifying your Indigenous ancestry helps ensure we provide the best cultural and support services possible.
INDIGENOUS DIPLOMA
PROGRAMSThe Indigenous Diploma Program is for applicants of Indigenous ancestry who wish to pursue university level studies, who may not have taken a traditional academic path towards post-secondary education. See page 45.
CELEBRATING INDIGENEITY
AND INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGEThe Annual Elders & Traditional Peoples Gathering provides an opportunity for students and the community to listen and learn from elders across the country. The Trent University Native Association is a student-run group creating cultural awareness and support for Indigenous students inside and outside the University.

YOUR COLLEGE: YOUR COMMUNITYLike neighbourhoods within a larger city, Trent’s colleges are communities that promote learning, embrace diversity, and lead to friendships that last a lifetime. Made up of classrooms, lounges, faculty offices, dining facilities, residences, and more, colleges are places where students can make meaningful connections between each other, and with professors and staff.
You don’t have to be in residence to be part of a college. All Trent students, in all years, are part of a college community, which brings together a unique blend of traditions, events, workshops, places to hangout, and support services – all designed to help you experience a true sense of belonging.
“Trent has an incredible
ability to make you feel at
home every time you’re
on campus. Some of my
most unforgettable Trent memories
have come from participating in student
life through Orientation Week, Rebound,
student clubs and more! There are so
many rewarding ways to get involved at
Trent, which made it so easy for me to
connect with the Trent community.”

CATHARINE PARR TRAILL COLLEGEAn integral part of the academic and social life of the University as a whole, Catharine Parr Traill College is also a self-contained and active community, beautifully situated on a drumlin in downtown Peterborough. One of
Trent’s original colleges, Traill is named in honour of one of the region’s first settlers and consists of a collection of old houses of architectural and historic significance. This close-knit campus community is also home to many graduate students.

GZOWSKI COLLEGE“The way we speak together” – it’s not only the meaning of Enweying, the building in which Gzowski College is located, it also represents the discussion and respect for each other that
is at the heart of this college. As a student here, through the pursuit of sustainability, the exploration of marketplaces and numbers, and the honouring of Indigenous traditions, you will explore intersection of many different fields of study and discover the world.

LADY EATON COLLEGECreative energy, a passion for our local community and a commitment to self-expression all describe LEC. This college’s Latin motto, Sapientia et Humanitas, translates to mean Wisdom with a Compassionate Outlook, and inspires students to
apply what they learn at Trent to their broader communities to help make a positive impact on the world around them.

OTONABEE COLLEGEIn Ojibwe, Otonabee means “river that beats like a heart,” which symbolizes the way this college looks to the horizon, and imagines ways of keeping up with a fast-paced life while honouring the heart. Like the Otonabee River, for which this
college is named, the OC community is ever-changing and unrelenting. As part of OC, you’ll become part of its beating heart – a melody of voices creating waves of change.

“Choosing the Chemical Physics program at Trent, I found there was a certain advantage over other programs in the sciences. You get all of the rigour and the completeness of a Physics degree, and then I found that the Chemistry end of it really helps with awareness of the field. I learned in all sorts of upper-year specialty courses about instrumentation. You get both this broad scope view of both fields and you get a deep understanding of physics and chemistry.”

“One of the big things that Trent has demonstrated for me, is that for most people, careers are non-linear. People can earn one degree and end up in a completely different field, enjoying everything they do. Knowing I’m graduating with an English degree and don’t have to do something stereotypical with it, was an important lesson, and a liberating one. “I was looking for a small community, somewhere that I would not be another face in the crowd, where I could combine academic pursuit with community engagement. I found all of this, and more, at Trent. Making the connection between theoretical knowledge and lived experience has been the most rewarding gift that I have received while in the classroom.”
