Introduction Read and view a range of travel

brochures and travel websites to examine how they influence you in what to visit in Asia. Use this information to persuade others to travel a destination in Asia by electronically creating a brochure of where to stay and what to visit (cities, towns and sights).

The Task Write a persuasive travel brochure for travel to Asia, ensuring it follows the structure of

persuasive texts and uses appropriate persuasive language and visual elements to encourage others to travel there.

The travel brochure must include:- A title or statement that grabs the readers attention- Brief summary of the setting, with highlights of important places- Location, including a map- Major cities, well-known place- Historic sites and landmarks- Recreation and outdoor activities- parks, sports, water- Entertainment - Climate and overall weather conditions- Transportation- Arts and culture including museums, theatres, places to visit- Languages and local dialect- Foods that are well known for that area- Visual elements that portray a positive image of Asia- Positive persuasive language- Additional information and conclusion

resources given, search through to select appropriate information for your brochure.

ProcessWeek Task

1 Look at examples of brochures. In your book write down the features of a travel brochure and begin a word wall brainstorming the types of words used in a persuasive text. Choose a part of Asia to make a travel brochure on. Share with the group what you saw in the brochures. Were there maps, photos, other illustrations? What kind of language and vocabulary was used? How is the text presented? Paragraphs, bullet lists? Are specific places highlighted? What kind? View persuasive writing featured in brochures. Identify their goal and three reasons/facts to support and validate their reason. Use the persuasive map planning sheet as a guide. Show students the Travel Brochure Rubric so they know the requirements for the project.

2 Build your field of knowledge- in your book look at the main features which you identified as being in a travel brochure. Use the resources page to search for information to include in your travel brochure. Record your information in your book under the appropriate headings.

3 After you have gathered enough information for your travel brochure, begin placing it onto your brochure. Look at this template as an example. Open publisher and select brochure template. Make sure you write down any references to sites you use information from.

4 Continue creating your brochure ensuring you have included information on each of the following sections. Also make sure your illustrations relate to the information on the page. Make it visually appealing for readers.

5 Share your brochures with the rest of the class.
