Passages Jim Reedy

im Reedy, age 77, passed away December 30, 2017, in Twin Falls, Idaho, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born June 15, 1940, on the floor of

the doctor’s house in Fairfield, Idaho, to Carrie Ayres Reedy and James Reedy. He graduated from Camas County High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 and as a reservist until 1965. Two of his Navy years were aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga and included serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He returned home to Fairfield and purchased a farm. He married Penelope Croner in 1971 and they had four children: Tricia, Katie, James, and Edward. In his final days, he said his children were “the best crop I ever raised.” He later inherited the family homestead in Soldier and farmed with his brother and worked the land on both farms. He was a hard worker who took many sideline jobs over the years in order to keep the farms running and support his family. As part of this, he was the rural route mail carrier for the Postal Service as relief carrier and then as full time for a total of 29 years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family, and flying his airplane over the Camas Prairie. He is survived by his children, his brother Tom, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dale.

Funeral services were held January 8 at the Community Church on Soldier Road in Fairfield, followed by burial at Mountain View Cemetery. ❦

Wendy Louise York endy York was a funny and passionate woman who routinely delighted her family and friends by being a flamboyant and uncompromising aesthete. With

Wendy, it wasn’t just that she was, by training and destiny, a skilled and imaginative artist, illustrator, photographer and writer. The astonishment came from knowing and loving someone for whom everything – every object, cat, entrée, transaction, sign, surface, road, bush, sunset, sound, song, beloved person, bird, random person – was charged with astonishing significance, with the immanence of beauty and love. Around Wendy, nothing was routine: everything meant everything; nothing meant nothing.

Wendy, who recently moved from Fairfield to Oregon, died January 3 at home, near her Mom, her brother Shayne and his wife Brenda, in Medford after a long and spirited battle against the ravages of epilepsy. Wendy was born in Wyoming in 1978 to Anita Ralph and Ron Liddell. Anita and Wendy eventually gravitated to their homeland of Colorado where Wendy and Shayne grew up on a small ranch outside of Craig. Wendy attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and sent deep roots down into an adventurous art scene in Denver, where she later lived, worked and practiced art and design, finding friends she never ever lost, even when she was far far away. The family plans to hold a memorial event for Wendy in Fairfield in the spring/summer 2018. ❦

The Camas County Public Library will be hosting the fourth “Let’s Talk About It” book discussion at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 22, and it’s about Pudd’nhead Wilson, a strange novel by Mark Twain which involves the debut of fingerprint forensics in fiction, and a story of a slave baby and a free baby swapped at birth. What could go wrong? By the time he wrote Pudd’nhead, Twain had matured into a sure-handed comic stylist, so the book is likely to be memorable Twain. Books are available for checkout at the library!
