Transportable Radioanalytic LaboratoriesTurnkey Solutions for Your On-Site Measurement Needs

Put Our Experience to Work for You

When you must be close to your sample source, whether at a decommissioning site, at a remote operation or where chain-of-custody concerns dictate local log-in and counting, a transportable laboratory may be the most cost-effective approach.

Transportable laboratories are the convenient way to provide radioanalytical capabilities at locations difficult or impossible to serve from central facilities. Whether a key element of an emergency response team or an on-site location for human or animal whole-body counting, trans-portable laboratories play an increasingly important role in environmental monitoring.

By integrating high-quality CANBERRA counting and computing systems in completely finished and air conditioned interior workspaces, our transportable laboratories have all the capabilities and most of the comforts of central facilities. These instant laboratories are ready to use where you need them. Our experience includes vans, trucks, trailers and ISO international standard modules in a variety of semi-permanent and mobile configurations.

Worldwide Service and SupportServices for our products are available in more than 60 countries on six continents on a local basis. Our support organization, with multiple service centers worldwide, provides technical support and repairs wherever you are.

Turnkey SolutionsCANBERRA supplies turnkey transportable laboratory solutions, which include laboratory design, equipment selection, installation, calibration and training. We completely design most of the laboratories we build, from running gear to counting gear. You benefit from our worldwide leadership in manufacturing radiation detection systems and years of experience providing solutions to practical applications.

Successfully outfitting a transportable laboratory with sophisticated counting equipment originally designed for a benign fixed environment is not a simple matter. CANBERRA has built more than 60 transportable laboratories for a variety of analytical applications worldwide. This is extremely valuable experience for future designs. We understand the importance of reliability and design our transportable laboratories for the long haul.

We manufacture a complete range of radioanalytical instruments and therefore under stand the special measures that must be taken to ensure that our equipment performs reliably under the rough conditions encountered in transportable laboratories. For example, we enhance our electronics and counting equipment with stronger construction and shock mounts to withstand extra abuse. In fact, our warranties do not normally cover equipment installed in transportable laboratories, except when those labs are designed and built by us.

Transportable laboratories usually fall into three general configurations: semi-permanent, more mobile and highly mobile facilities. We have experience in all three and can guide you in the appropriate selection, from vans and trailers to ISO International modules. Vehicle motors and drive trains require regular maintenance and may be subject to unexpected problems. Depending on needs, a tractor-trailer-based laboratory is a reliable option. With a truck or van, a defective motor makes the entire laboratory unusable. However, with a tractor-trailer arrangement, the tractor unit with motor and drive train can be quickly replaced.

Counting systems and allied equipment often are quite heavy and must be properly placed in vehicles designed for such loads. Small vehicles require special attention to be sure they comply with load specifications and road regulations while still providing a useful working laboratory.

Select The Transportable Laboratory Configuration That Best Suits Your Needs

Semi-PermanentLaboratories that will stay in one location for an extended period of time; facilities to supplement central labs; on-site facilities at major decommissioning or other long-term remote operations...

To Highly MobileLaboratories that need to be moved easily from location to location, for multiple location human and animal counting or as part of an emergency response team.

ISO Standard Transportable Laboratory ModuleThe ISO international sea freight container available in standard modular sizes – is commonly recommended because vehicle regulations vary around the world. Container modules can be mated with suitable vehicles available in the destination country which will conform to rules of that country.

ISO modules are readily shipped by sea, rail, road or air and are adaptable to common methods of local transportation, either temporary (put on truck or trailer) or permanent (attach wheels to module).

A variety of wheels, lifters, jacks and other accessories for ISO modules are available within the worldwide transportation network.

Laboratories based on these modules are spacious and comfortable. Their completely finished interiors include heating, air conditioning, lighting and electrical distribution. ISO-based laboratories can be placed directly on ground level, which eliminates the need for stairs or ramps and makes it easier to load equipment and samples.

ISO modules are readily shipped by sea, rail, road or air.The laboratory modules can also be semi-permanently installed on the ground for easy access.

CANBERRA can assist you in designing an efficient ISO laboratory plan. An environmental sample preparation and counting lab, a waste assay facility with remote electronics, and a combined in vivo and sample counting facility are shown below.
