    Q1. Transport assessment and objectives are considered from national, regional and local perspective.

    Identify RSS and RTS objectives for transport.

    The following Objectives otlined below are for Regional Spatial Strategy !RSS" and Regional Transport

    Strategy !RTS".

    RSS Objectives for Transport are:

    !i" #stablish a $spatial% vision and strategy for the region, for e&ample identification of the areas for

    development or regeneration for a period of more than '( years ahead.

    !ii" )ontribte to the achievement of sstainable development.

    !iii" #stablish regionally specific policies, which are e&pected to add to rather than replicate the

    national ones.

    !iv" *ddress regional or sb+regional isses that may cross conty, nitary athorities or district

    bondaries.

    !v" Otline hosing figres for district and nitary athorities to tae forward in their locality

    development framewors.

    !vi" #stablish priorities for environmental protection and enhancement, and define the e&tent of areas

    of green belt.

    !vii" -rodce a regional Transport Strategy as part of the wider spatial strategy.

    !viii" Otline ey priorities for investment, specifically for infrastrctres, and identify delivery

    mechanism, in order to spport development.

    !i&" Identify how the region%s waste shold be dealt with.

    !&" e consistent with and spportive of other regional framewors and strategies.

    RTS Objectives for Transport are:

    RTS aim is to have modern, sstainable, safe transportation which benefits the society, the economy and

    the environment and which actively contribtes to social inclsion and everyone%s /ality of life and the

    following objectives are meant to achieve the vision.

    !i" Improve transport lins, and provide fast, safe and reliable jorney opportnities to significant

    marets, inclding national economic centres.

    !ii" )ontribte to improved economic growth and social inclsion in the region whilst minimising the

    environmental impacts of transport.

    !iii" Spport the national transport target of road traffic stabilisation.

    !iv" *dd vale to the broader national economy and nderpin increased sstainable national economic

    growth.

    !v" *ssist in getting visitors0torists to the region from of Scotland, #ngland, Ireland and beyond.

    !vi" aing it possible for more people to do bsiness by providing sstainable connections to ey

    !vii" Spport vibrant places that employment, healthcare edcation and other services that people needand want, so that their /ality of life is ma&imised.

    !viii" Redce the constraint of peripherality, both between the region%s main settlements and its

    otlying areas, and between the region and its e&ternal marets.

    !i&" )apitalise on improvements to critical long distance corridors to create new transport services,

    nodes and development opportnities in the region.

    while at the same time recognising wider conte&t of economic, social and environmental
