for picking up DEAR on Friday.
Hi everyone. The term is flying past and as busy as ever. If you are considering enrolling in our school, please let us know in plenty of time as we are already planning classes for next year.
Kinder Transition days
We had our first Kinder transition day this week and it was a resounding success. Ms Liplyn and Mrs Corcoran were very impressed with the group. I know they are all looking forward eagerly for next week’s session. For the children
who have been attending Early Birds it was just another day at the office!
Social Media
We are having a few issues with the misuse of social media at the moment. The inappropriate use of Facebook and
Snap Chat can be very hurtful and although frequently done outside of school, this usually affects the harmony within the school. It is very important for parents and caregivers to monitor closely their child’s use of and access to
social media and assist the school in minimising any potential harm. On Thursday 6th November Sr Sargeant Marty
Paice will be addressing our students on the short and long term implications of bullying others and leaving a ‘digital
footprint’ which can turn up at any time in the future.
School Planning
Our school is in the process of planning for 2015 and we have been seeking the opinions and ideas of all members of our school community. Our staff completed an on-line survey ‘Focus on Learning’ Teacher Survey which looked at
the eight drivers of student learning and identified areas that could be improved. The report that we received is very
pleasing and shows us that in general we are doing well, but it has also given us ideas of where we can do better.
Our Community Liaison Officer, Mel Gleeson will be contacting parents, caregivers and community members to
gain their ideas about what we do well and where we could improve. We have come a long way in the last few years
and we have a wonderful school with great students and talented teachers. We are well aware however, that we
constantly need to strive to improve and that we need to make sure that we never think that we have ‘arrived’. The question now is – how do we make something that is already great even better? If you have any ideas tell Mel!
Our students will also be completing a survey to give us their opinions. A letter will be sent out shortly giving both
students and parents the option of not participating as this is purely optional. The students’ opinions DO matter, however so we hope that a large number of students will choose to participate.
Once this data has been collated we will then have a direction in which to proceed and some ideas of how students
and the community would like us to get there.
Recorder Group
When I was at school I started my love of music by learning the recorder. This led to the clarinet and the saxophone
in what seemed a natural progression. I will be starting a recorder group this term, hopefully leading to a large concert band of the future! We are presently asking for expressions of interest to join. This will not affect students
who are learning other instruments.
Finally ........
As always, my door is open. Do not hesitate to come in and see me if you have a concern. No problem is too hard to
solve if we work together.
All the best

Trangie Melbourne Cup
The race that stopped the Art class for 15 minutes!!!
On Melbourne Cup Day, Year 8 Visual Arts students participated in the first ever Trangie Clay
Cup. Students were required to make a clay horse in the allocated time of five minutes and then choose a name. A game of trivia was designed around recent class content taught and to answer
students had to buzz in with their horse’s name. A correct answer moved their horse along the
track towards the finish line. Winner and proud owner of ‘Who shot the teacher’ was Bryce Hannaford and coming in second
by a nose behind was Meegan Seymour’s ‘Don’t you think my horse is good looking’.
Mr Jones has reported that it was a highly contested race and there was a variety of weird and
wonderful names. Who said learning can’t be fun??? Thanks to Mr Jones for his inspiration and creativity in the classroom.
Year 11 Skill Fix Excursion
On Tuesday 11th November, Year 11 students will travel to Charles Sturt University in Dubbo for the day. They will
be participating in a number of workshops designed to gain skills in exam preparation and study techniques. They will also meet current students of the campus and take a tour around the grounds. These days are very valuable for students
to be a part of and will prepare them for tertiary education after their completion of the HSC. The excursion has a
limited number of places, so notes and payment need to be returned to the front office ASAP.
Yearly Exams 7-10
The timetable for exams has been included below and will start on Monday 10th November. Please note that students
will need to be on school grounds by 8.40am each day as is the usual case. Latecomers may have to complete exams during other lessons.
All students need to be in full school uniform and bring necessary equipment for the day, especially calculators for the
maths exam. Normal lessons will be held after exams each day.
Have a great weekend

Students in the Preliminary Visual Design course have been working on
modules from the fields of Graphic Design, Wearable Design and Product
Design. This year our students have designed and illustrated tattoos, created
custom shoes and have designed and produced their own lamps. Students
have been kept busy designing products for their fictional clients. This term
students will be working on label design and packaging. The knowledge and
skills developed will prepare them for their individual design project in 2015.
Pictured right are some examples of the students’ wearable design products. Above: Groovy shoes made in Visual Design!
TERM 4 - Week 5
General Business
YEAR 11 Access Camp 2015 Preliminary students for 2015 will be required to attend Access Camp at Lake Burrendong in Week 5, Term One of 2015. This is a great opportunity for students to meet socially with other students in the program and to meet their
teachers face to face. Students will be participating in Sport and Recreational activities alongside educational
activities organized by their teachers. More information about camp will be distributed to students soon. Stay posted.
YEAR 10 into YEAR 11 Orientation for WAP Year 10 students will be getting a taste of the Western Access Program via Video Conferencing (known as VC).
Students will be meeting with myself, learning the basic VC procedures and protocol. Students will also be partnered
up with our HSC students for some peer support.
Assessments Due at 9.00am Preliminary students have now started the HSC course. Students were reminded this week of the expectations of the
course and WAP policies and procedures.
Our new WAP policy is that all assessments are now due on Wednesdays at 9.00am. This requires students to
submit their hard copy assessment task and a completed green assessment cover sheet to Mr Jones during roll call. If
students fail to submit by 9.00am they will be awarded zero marks and will be issued with an N Warning letter.
HSC 2015 Assessment Schedules Senior students have received their 2014/2015 assessment schedule booklet. The booklet also outlines all WAP
policies and procedures. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.
HSC 2014/15 students are encouraged to take advantage of our Homework Centre on Tuesday afternoons. Due to popular demand the Saying of the week- is a repeat of last week……………………...
”There is no such thing as a FREE PERIOD.”
Feel free to visit the Western Access Program website for more information about the program and polices and
procedures. http://westernaccess.nsw.edu.au/

Assistant Principals’ Report This week we have seen some more work completed on the back playground area. We are so fortunate that we have a
handful of committed families who are willing to give up not only their time, but their own money and resources.
We would like to thank the Gleeson, Kater and St Clair families for being the driving force behind our playground makeover. At each stage we are seeing the bigger picture start to take shape. The students are so excited and are
constantly asking when it will be time to play. In the meantime, please enjoy the latest pictures taken of the
makeover.
Calling All Student Leaders! Over the coming two weeks we will be conducting our annual election to elect our primary student leaders for 2015.
Some students in Year 5 have already received a list of student responsibilities attached to each of the roles.
We ask that families discuss each of the roles with their children and support them by assisting in the writing of speeches. Some classes have already begun to do this in class, however, some students prefer to do this in the privacy
of their own home. Good luck!
Prizes for Lego Competition
During Tuesday’s morning muster, students who received a place in Andreas’s
Lego competition were presented with their prizes. Prizes were kindly donated
by Ms Cutcliffe. Once again we wish to thank all competitors, as well as Andreas and his hardworking team who coordinated the competition.
Get Active! Kids need at least an hour a day of physical activity. Kids should not spend more than two hours a day watching TV
or playing computer games. Why?.................
Kids won’t get all the physical activity they need at school and childcare. Families need to play a role in encouraging kids to be active. There are lots of benefits to being active:
Healthy growth & development
Helping to maintain a healthy body weight
Developing flexibility, balance and coordination Meeting new friends
Promoting relaxation and self-confidence
Being happy and full of energy
Tips
Explore new places as a family – parks, bush walks,
bike paths and local sports facilities Get active indoors (dance, juggling, hula hoop) and
outdoors (throw a Frisbee, jog or skip)

1/2 RUBIES 1/2 Rubies have been extremely busy so far in Term 4. In English, each morning Rubies are working really hard
on their writing. Below are some work samples of our writing.
‘Once there were two crocodiles, one of the crocs was named Sylvester and the other croc was named Arnold.
They didn’t know each other. One day the two crocs bumped into each other. Sylvester put on a toothy grin so did
Arnold. Sylvester made his eyes go big, so did Arnold. Sylvester grabbed Arnold with his two claw grip, so did
Arnold.’- Brittany Ellis
‘Stanley swam towards a sunken ship looking for his friends. The Lobster was counting golden coins he told
Stanley to go away. Stanley didn’t see a shadow behind him and it was a shark. Stanley saw a hole and he swam into the hole then Stanley found his friends.’- Thomas Simpson
‘The Lion was going to eat the mouse and there were lots of animals in the Jungle. The Lion said to the Mouse get out of my way or I will eat you.’- Summah Lawrence
‘One day there was a big forest. The Lion was walking along and all of the animals ran away but the Mouse
didn’t. He said “Get out of my way”. “No don’t eat me!” said the Mouse.’- Haiden Stonestreet
This term on Monday, Tuesday and Friday 1/2 Rubies joins some other Year 2’s and the Kindergarten class for
Maths Groups. We are learning about a lot of different maths areas, for example over the last few weeks we have been looking at fractions, multiplication and division, whole number and addition and subtraction. Below are some
photos from our Maths Groups.
During Sport this term 1/2 are learning Tennis skills. Students are participating in games of Mini Tennis. 1/2 are
really enjoying having a go. We could have the next Pat Rafter or Sam Stosur! Below are some photos.

Report by Jay Greenwood – Year 3
Last Friday we remembered Daniel Morcombe. We watched video
clips to learn ideas to keep us safe. We could wear red and we learnt
about having a family password and thinking about who we can
rely on. Next we made a hand and a red ribbon to wear for the day.
Then we learnt about Recognise, React and Report. After that we
learnt about stranger danger – even if people look nice they can be
bad. If people say “come in”, don’t go in. It is OK to say no to an
adult if you feel scared. Always be safe when you are walking home
by yourself.
I think not many people are bad but just try to always be safe.
Daniel Morcombe by Sofie Foster – Year 3
Last Friday we remembered Daniel Morcombe. Everyone wore red. We watched some videos called keeping kids safe.
After that we made some red ribbons to stick on our dresses. We made some paper shirts with writing on them about
what we could do if we get lost at the shops.
We learnt that you have to Recognise, React and Report so that you can be safe. We also learnt that you could have a
family password to help you be safe.
So if you see somebody tricking you Recognise, React and Report. Be safe Australia!
Red Day for Daniel by Kaylee Appleyard – Year 2 On Friday we learned how to keep ourselves safe from stranger danger and if we got lost. Miss Murtagh told us to wear red for the foundation on Friday. We did not have to pay money we had to learn important
information. We made badges and coloured them in red and put sparkles on them. We watched lots of movies and shows about safety. Daniel Morcombe by Sophie Purseglove – Year 3 On Friday we had a red day for Daniel Morcombe in remembrance of his death. After he died his Mum and Dad started a foundation to teach other children how to be safe. We watched videos of how to keep us safe. For example, who you can rely on to keep you safe or maybe you could have a family password like ‘banana’. You should be careful wherever you are and if you are able to wear red on this day it would be very nice. We have red day nearly all over Australia. I think it is a really good idea. So I think we should continue on each year.

STUDENT VOICE Lego Tournament Did you know that Lego could be so popular? There is even a tournament run by Andreas Gordon and Stefan Markgraff, right here right now! All Primary students were invited to enter a Lego Building Competition held on Monday the 27th at lunch time in the 4/5 room.
Children had 20 minutes to build their entry. All Lego was provided- please do not bring Lego to school, it may get lost. Children entered in teams of 4 or by themselves. Lego entries were judged and prizes awarded for first, second and third. All money raised will be donated to the Trangie Multi-Purpose Service. Congratulations to all the winners and participants.

Planting in Our Garden We planted strawberries, spring onions, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, celery and beans. We worked hard in the very hot sun. It took us a while to plant all of these plants. We dug small holes and teased the roots, then we put in the plant. Once we did that we put sugar cane mulch on top, this helps to protect the soil and plants.
