Smile of the Week
Goes to Alissa Miller for
always being so super
organised.
What a team!!
There is nothing
we cannot achieve
together!!
Music Workshop Success On Friday Mr Lee, Ms Dorman and I took 12 students to
Tottenham to participate in a music workshop with
Tottenham Central, Trundle, Tullamore and Trangie. We
took trombones, trumpets, clarinets, guitars, saxophones,
drums and a euphonium. There were different guitar
workshops and a concert band of about 30 people. We
were joined by an adult group from Tottenham and Ms
Dorman and I took advantage of the opportunity and
played in the band too which was a real treat for us as we
do not get to play often enough. The concert band was
conducted by Mr Justin Screen from the Conservatorium
of Music and our own local expert Mr Lee led one of the
guitar groups. We were incredibly fortunate to have the
expertise of Mr Screen and Mr Lee on the day.
The concert band learned 4 new pieces on the day and our
students, many as young as Year 4 had to follow a
conductor, read music, play in parts and were also
required to play in front of the rest of the band. It was an
incredibly steep learning curve for our beginners but I was
so proud of how they conducted themselves on the day
and how much progress they made in such a short time. At
the end of the day we held a mini-concert and showed off
our expertise! Daniel Flannery’s guitar solo was
exceptional and Christopher Metcher’s courage as the
drummer was amazing. Well done to everyone.
The day was such an enormous success that next year we
plan to have such a day each term, with the workshop
being held at a different school each time. Hopefully we
will take a much larger group next time and include our
violin and cello players in a strings group. The students
learned what a wonderful experience it is to make music
together – a thrill that they will always remember.
Our outstanding music program will continue next year
with an annual participation fee of $20 payable by all
students to cover photocopying etc and an instrument hire
fee of $20 per term if you wish your child to use a school
instrument, to cover maintenance and replacement costs.
If there are outstanding fees carried over from 2013 into
2014 these will need to be paid before students will be
entered onto the 2014 program.
Work Ethic
At Trangie Central School we have high expectations of
the work ethic of our students. Our staff work incredibly
hard and are excellent role models for our students. Our
examinations have been completed for the term, but we
will be holding classes as usual until the end of week 10
with lessons directly related to the skills and content as
defined by our syllabuses. We will be having no
‘entertainment’ such as videos, colouring in etc and it will
not be until Week 11 when Christmas activities may
begin. We expect that attendance will continue full time
until the end of term unless there is a reason that has been
discussed and formalised in line with attendance policies
and the appropriate paperwork. It is important to note that
Year 10 students have the same attendance requirements
as the rest of the school and should be at school until the
last day, which is Wednesday 18th December.
Enrolments
If you would like to enrol your child in our wonderful
school we accept applications at any time. If you are
interested in visiting our school please contact the office
and you are welcome to have a look around. Enrolments
are accepted in line with our enrolment policy.
Finally ........
My belief is that if a child is not at school then they
cannot learn. I will continue to work with families and
support them in ensuring that all children attend regularly
and so take full advantage of all the opportunities that a
good education offers. It is the best possible gift you can
give your child. We cannot do this unless we work as a
team.
Remember:
It does not rate to be late!!
As always, my door is open. Do not hesitate to come in
and see me if you have a concern. No problem is too hard
to solve if we work together.
All the best

SECONDARY
iKi School Program Workshop
On Tuesday this week, Kim Macrae conducted iKi workshops with 7-10 students to prepare them to
become mentors for primary students. iKi is a traditional aesethic ideal of human behaviour and
combines physical fitness routines with outcome based content that is very engaging. Students
become stronger, more confident and develop leadership qualities as they learn. This worthwhile
program was met with enthusiasm from the students and it will be great to see the end results when
completed in the near future.
Band Workshop
Last Friday, our band members attended a workshop held at Tottenham. This new initiative will see
many schools come together to form a regional band that will perform at various functions. It is
wonderful to see the region collaborate and even more wonderful for our students to be part of it.
This week will see 60 touring Eleebana Public School students attend our school to hold another
band workshop and to perform with our students on Friday 29th November.
Transition Excursion
The transition excursion for Years 6, 7 & 8 will be held on 10th – 13th
December at Broken Bay S & R Centre, Brooklyn. All students are
getting very excited about this upcoming event and it will give our
new 2014 Year 7 enrolments an opportunity to become more
familiar with our staff and students here at Trangie Central. Over the
course of the week, students will participate in some very enjoyable
activities. All relevant information has been sent home to parents/
caregivers.
2014 School Leaders
On Tuesday, three of our Year 10 students; Kaeleb Appleyard, Shanae Thompson
and Katherine O’Brien, delivered speeches to the secondary school vowing to be
an effective School Captain in 2014. The students spoke both persuasively and
eloquently whilst stating their reasons to gain the position. Our students have voted
and the results will be announced at our Presentation Day Assembly on Thursday
5th December.
First Aid Training
A First Aid course is being delivered to Year 10 students on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th
December. This will gain them an Applied First Aid Certificate and will be conducted by The
Australian Lifesaving Academy of NSW. Students have been given permission notes and will need
to ensure the $70.00 fee has been paid prior to their participation in this
training.
School Spectacular
Tune into Channel 9 at 7pm on Saturday Night or to GO! At 1:30 pm on
Sunday to watch our talented dancers in the Aboriginal Ensemble.
Have a great weekend

Assistant Principals’ Report
Primary school swimming has begun with great enthusiasm. On
Monday each child was assessed doing a series of tasks to help
teachers place the children in the appropriate groups for their
swimming levels. Children have been involved in developing their
swimming skills as well as learning some important life saving skills.
It is great to see the students coming to school with their swimming
gear under their uniform and sunscreen applied. This means we are
organised SO much quicker and able to get into the water and have
extra time swimming.
A great big thank you to our absolutely WONDERFUL teacher’s aides
for their support in the water and poolside. We are very lucky to have
you!
KINDER ORIENTATION
Congratulations to Miss
Greer, Miss Druce and
helpers for organising a
terrific series of Kinder
orientation events.
It was a very positive
experience for our youngest
students, with children
returning home with terrific
creations and stories to tell.
Year 6 Graduation
Dinner RSVP and payment for the
Year 6 dinner is overdue. If
you intend to come, please

Digital Photography Course, 2014
Trangie Central School we hope to offer an evening course in Digital Imaging in 2014.
The course outline is based on the requirements of the HSC Content Endorsed Course
Photography, Video and Digital Imaging. Health and Safety issues are also included in the
course.
The proposed syllabus modules to be covered are set out below.
Where: Trangie Central School Computer Lab.
We will also try to organise some ‘field trips’
around Trangie while daylight saving allows to
practise techniques and compare results with other
members of the class.
When: Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
The actual time will depend on work or family
commitments of the students.
At present, it is likely that the starting time will
be 6:00 pm.
Cost: $25 for the year to cover paper and printing.
Costs of any additional, non-materials essential
will be the students’ responsibility.
Equipment needed: A digital camera would be an
advantage, but the school has several which can be
borrowed for class activities. If you have a laptop,
you might like to consider bringing it along to work on in class.
More information: Call the school on 68887578.
Introduction to Practice in Digital Imaging
This module provides an introduction to the techniques of digital imaging. Digital photography requires an
understanding of basic software tools. This module is well suited to students who have had limited experience
in this field.
Developing a Point of View:
In this module students develop their artistic skills in digital imaging by thinking about their intentions and the
intended audience for their work, and how the world can be interpreted through selected subject matter and
concepts.
Manipulated Forms:
In this module students discover how various techniques and technologies can be used in the construction and
transformation of imagery in digital works. Techniques include correction of errors, removal of unwanted
components by cropping and re-framing and adding special effects.
Project:
Throughout the year, you will be working on a group or individual project (your choice). This will probably
involve preparing a portfolio, an album or some other form of visual document such as a family history or
coverage of a special event.
