INTRODUCTION

Migration is a part of an important debate across the enlarged European Union. On the other hand, the world and specifically Europe has millions of refugees who are unable to go home or unwilling to do so in the face of persecution which has led to unprecedented levels of diversity. Most of the countries in the world have been experiencing migratory phenomena and facing with integration challenges.

Integration challenges have not been handled always with satisfactory results. Reflecting the different histories, traditions and institutional arrangements, there are a wide variety of approaches being taken to find solutions to the problems which need to be tackled. We need to find better ways to integrate migrants.

To enhance migrant integration efforts, The Curriculum “Training for Better Integration of Immigrants” was developed which draws a training and learning pathway for persons working with migrants.

Integration allows immigrants to participate in the civic life of their new country, and is a powerful symbolic gesture of their commitment to their host society. A successful integration of migrants can contribute directly to innovation, technological progress, and rising human-capital levels alongside investments in education and workforce-training systems, research and development, too.

ABOUT THE CURRICULUM

The curriculum presents a training and learning pathway to support local actors in the field of

migrant services based on law, procedures, inclusion processes, behavior, international and EU

principles to provide long lasting impact on immigrant inclusions in society and in employment

sector in Europe.

This structural international learning curriculum is aimed for adult learners with different

perspectives to support their learnings for better immigrant inclusive works and to lessen the gap

among EU countries so that enhancing the quality and competent education of migrant staff &

operators/NGOs, local authorities in Europe.

Hence, The Curriculum was developed to improve knowledge and skills to integrate migrants into

society and economic/social sectors with intellectual development works of partner institutes of

LL2II Project.

TARGET GROUPS OF THE CURRICULUM

Staff of local authorities, public servants and institutions working with migrants

NGOs

Trainers, counsellors, and managers of service providers for immigrants

Volunteers working for migrants

Vocational education and training (VET) sector

TIME FRAME

The LL2II programme will run around 33 hours in total composed of 25 hours learning and 8 hours

exercises sessions. Each module has different learning hours related to module units. The modular

structure of the programme gives learners the opportunity to learn specific modules and leave

others. A self-assessment tool supports the learning process.

MATERIALS and TOOLS

Training materials in different forms according to module character are provided online on LL2II

Portal. Contents are taken from selected projects or materials but also use newly developed

training material, by referring resources where needed.

METHODOLOGY

Recommended methodology for the training and learning is either online or offline. Texts,

presentation materials, important parts from official reports & laws and regulations, practical

information, case study, visual and/or audio visual learning, tests are offered methodology tools.

Also project works and open discussions wherever face to face training is available.

For face to face training, it’s recommended to create an interactive learning environment supported

with group works, discussions, role playing.

SELF ASSESSMENT AND TESTS

Another part of the learning is self-assessment tools composed of tests for each module.

It’s required to apply testing of participant’s learning level via a form of tests prepared for each module for a complete training and learning for Better Integration of Immigrants.

Accordingly, LL2II platform provides a separate testing system for each module. A participant may get a training completion certificate based upon test results in an online form.

Module 1.

Migration flows, features and

development

Introduction

Factors influencing migration include globalisation; changing demographics: ageing population, declining fertility; changing patterns of lifestyle: education, the restructuring of the labour market, hours in work; global poverty, wage disparities between countries and others.

This module has been prepared to make trainee gaining an overall knowledge about migration in the World, specifically in Europe, migration terms and also understanding of migrants.

The module helps to get an insight into migration reality and understanding of migrants from their point of view during field applications in addition to technical information.

Migration context

Introduction

Keeping up with current issues helps you anticipate migrant needs. That’s why, to know the international policy, institutes, the general framework of migrant integration and working in is needed as a person to work with migrants and to work for migrants.

This module has been prepared to make trainee familiar with international institutes, fundamental international laws, as well as stepping into migrant integration scope. In the end of the module participant gets acquainted with working in networks perspective.

Module 3.

Intercultural Competencies

Introduction When a migrant moves to another country, not only does he/she leave his/her country behind, but also enters into a new culture that operates under different codes from the ones he/she had assimilated before. These critical interactions hamper the personal, social and professional development of the migrant in the new country. Therefore, it remains vital that operators working in the migration field are interculturally prepared to help migrants in their process of integration, minimizing culture shock and assuring a smooth and real immersion. This module first aims at raising awareness on the importance of an intercultural approach towards migrants, making migrant operators experience first-hand how apparently “obvious” things can be interpreted in different ways. Later on, the module analyses the different stages experienced by the migrant in the process of adaptation as a tool for migrant operators to understand migrants’ behaviours. The module will then examine best practices in communication skills, that will help them preventing or minimizing the culture shock, and it will provide do´s and don’ts upon migrant’s arrival. The module will finish with a case study in which trainees will understand how a proper intercultural behaviour fosters the migrant wellbeing and his/ her evolution into society.

Introduction

Social professionals that work in the field of migration have to possess specific knowledges related to social sciences. A fundamental aspect in the work with migrants is the communication.

Migrants’ integration methodologies

Introduction Which is the meaning of integration? What is the integration policy of European Union? How the social professionals can support migrant and refugees in their processes of integration? These are the basic questions to understand the scope of this module, that aims to spread the best instruments to integrate migrants, in the host countries, in the key fields, as: reception, work, education, housing. This module aims to facilitate the work of social workers in the field of migration. It's necessary to understand why we have to include migrants in the host countries. Furthermore, it is possible to implement good practices from different fields and provide to the social workers the best tools to guide migrants and refugees in their new country.
