The St. Louis Rams are set to begin their third sea-son under Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo as the teamopens Bud Light Training Camp presented by RussellAthletic at the Russell Training Center in Earth City,Mo. The teams first practice will be held Saturday,July 30 at 1:50 p.m.

The Rams are looking to build on a 2010 season thatsaw them finish with a 7-9 mark and a second-placefinish in the NFC West. Spagnuolos team showedmarked improvement in many areas as the team wonsix more games in his second season at the helmthan it did in his first. Only one NFL team - the TampaBay Buccaneers - experienced a bigger turnaround in

2010 than the Rams as Tampa Bay won seven more games than it did in 2009.

Offensively, the Rams will once again lean on their reliable veteran running backand a handful of young players who have established a foundation that give theRams a bright future. RB Steven Jackson was voted to his third Pro Bowl of hiscareer after rushing for 1,241 yards last year, eighth best in the NFL and third inthe NFC. WR Danny Amendola ranked ninth in the NFL with 85 receptions as heand WR Brandon Gibson both set new career highs in receptions.

Last season, St. Louis offense immediately reaped the benefit of the teams toptwo picks in the 2010 draft. QB Sam Bradford, the top overall pick, set new NFLrookie records for attempts and completions while finishing with the second mostpassing yards by a rookie in NFL history. Bradford took every snap for the Ramsand won more games as a rookie than any quarterback selected number oneoverall since 1970. The teams second-round pick, T Rodger Saffold, was theonly NFL rookie to start 16 games at left tackle and admirably opened holes inthe running game while protecting Bradfords blind side. The Rams five startingoffensive linemen combined to miss just one start in 2010.

On the defensive side of the ball, St. Louis mix of ascending youngsters andveteran leaders stepped up on a much-improved unit. In their 11th seasons, DEJames Hall and DT Fred Robbins had perhaps their best campaigns of theircareers, while DE Chris Long had a breakout season with 8.5 sacks and LBJames Laurinaitis led the team in tackles for the second time in as many years.

The Rams finished 2010 ranked 12th in scoring defense, seventh in sacks, second in third down defense and tenth in turnover ratio.

Turnovers can often tell the story inthe NFL, and theyve certainly painteda big portion of the picture for the 2010Rams.

St. Louis was 6-1 last season whenthey won the turnover battle. St. Louiscommitted just 21 turnovers this sea-son, tied for 8th fewest in the NFL.The Rams committed 33 in 2009.

The Rams were aided by superb ballprotection from their player who han-dles it most often. When RB StevenJackson lost a fumble in Week 14 inNew Orleans, it was his first lost fum-ble in 562 touches. Hes lost just 14 fumbles in 2,205 career touches.

As a team, St. Louis lost just six fumbles in 2010, tied for the secondfewest in the NFL on the year.

Last season, the Rams offense made great strides in the mostimportant statistical category, which led to the team winning six moregames than it did in 2009.

Although St. Louis had no significant changes at the wide receiver, tight end and running back positions, the Rams scored 114 morepoints in 2010 than they did in 2009, an increase of 7.2 points pergame.

The jump was a significant one for St. Louis. Among NFL teams, only

One year removed from allowing 44

sacks, the Rams kept their quarter-back upright at a much better rate in2010.

Sam Bradford was dropped by oppo-nenents just 34 times this season. The 10-sack decrease was the sixth-best improvement in the NFL over2009 team totals.

Making the single-year improvementmore impressive is the fact that theteam accomplished the feat withboth a rookie quarterback and rookie

left tackle in Rodger Saffold. Theteams starting right tackle, second-year pro Jason Smith, entered the season with just five careerstarts under his belt.

No team in the NFL had fewer combined starts at the right tackle, left tackle and quarterback position than the Rams did going into2010, yet St. Louis still enjoyed an increase of 7.2 points per gameoffensively.

The Rams finished the season ranked 12th in the NFL in sacks perpass play at 5.76 percent, a dramatic improvement over their 8.1rate in 2009, which ranked 25th in the NFL.

A leading cause for the offensive lines success was its consistenthealth and continuity. St. Louis five opening day starters on theoffensive line combined to miss just one start in 2010.

The former Ohio State Buckeye had seven passesdefensed, one interception and three sacks on the year. Among Rams, only starting cornerbacks Ron Bartell (13) and Bradley Fletcher (12)had more pass breakups.

One of the biggest moves the Rams made last offseason was theacquisition of veteran DT Fred Robbins, and the addition of the 11thyear pro quickly paid dividends.

Robbins set a new career high with 6.0 sacks on the season andhad a big impact on the Rams defense. He held off blockers to allowJames Laurinaitis to run free, and his pass rush accumen drew theattention of opposing offenses and helped his defensive line mates.
