Home Care And Work From Home -1-

Home Care And Work From Home Phillip Lemel

After five years as a help desk specialists, I worked from home as much as possible until my father passed away in late 2016. During that time, I started and maintained a legal document conversion web site.

I have now finished updating my Word 2003 utilities to Word 2016 in February of 2018 and since I no longer need to work from home, I am selling my macro utilities so I may continue with my career as a Trainer, Developer and Help Desk Associate.

Video – Word 2016 Utilities

1. 2016 Word for Windows Utilities.

(a) Heading Finder Pro. The Heading Finder Pro is the only formatting utility that finds hard codedtext numbering and converts it to Headings by searching for the actual numbering scheme

• Takes any hard code text numbering that’s placedat the beginning of each paragraph and assigns itto the appropriate heading level as designated bythe user.

• Identifies and prompts you for any occurrence of aconflict between any two numbering schemes youmay choose, (i.e.: lower case roman numerals (i)which can be included in both the alphabeticalnumbering like (a), (b), (c) and the roman numerals (i), (ii) and (iii). Searches out thenumbering format where the Article is in the center and the title is also centered but on thesecond line and then replaces it with the appropriate styling (Soft Return) in order to producea table of contents correctly.

• Searches out 3 different types of “Section” numbering.• Finds over 100 different numbering combinations

(b) Table of Contents Automaker. Table of Contents Auto-Marker lets the userchange the Title portion in the Heading Styles (Number, Title and Anchor) toany format (Bold, Italic or Underlined) requested by the user and marks theappropriate levels with TOC Marks (Field Code Marking).

(c) Heading Styler. The Heading Styler lets the user change the Titleportion in the Heading Styles (Number, Title and Anchor) to anyformat (Bold, Italic or Underlined) requested by the user.

(d) Shortcut Keyboard System. The ShortcutKeyboard System offers a unique way to formatparagraphs in your document. There are multiplethemes that offer different paragraph formatsincluding automatic paragraph numbering(Headings), body text, body indent and more whilebeing user friendly and easy to remember.

(i) Single Space Keyboard.

The shortcut keyboard makes it veryconvenient for the user to apply 5 different types of paragraph formatting.

a. Major Theme.• Headings (Alt+Ctrl+#’s 1-7) • Body Text (Ctrl+#’s 1-7) • Indented Text (Alt +#’s 1-7)

b. Minor Theme.• Title/Centering (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+#’s 1-7) • Body Text First Line Indent (Shift+Ctrl+#’s 1-7)

(ii) Pleading Paper/Double Spacing Keyboard.

The shortcut keyboard makes it very convenient for the user to change from DoubleSpacing to Single spacing without having to use complex key stroking.

a. Major Theme (Double Space/24 Point).• Headings (Alt+Ctrl+#’s 1-7) • Body Text (Ctrl+#’s 1-7) • Indented Text (Alt +#’s 1-7)

b. Minor Theme (Single Space/12 Point).• Body Text (Shift+Ctrl+#’s 1-7) • Indented Text (Shift+Alt+#’s 1-7)

(e) Conversion Utilities.

(i) Web Based Converter. Removes all the spacing and paragraph returnsfrom a web based document creating stable paragraphs.

(ii) Rich Text Document Converter. Rich Text converter will search andfind paragraphs by common formatting measurements applied asdirect formatting.

(iii) Tabbed Base Converter. The Tabbed Based Converter will search outthe tabs for both indented and first line indent of each paragraph andreplace it with the appropriate style name and direct formatting.

(f) Numbering Template Manager. The Paragraph Numbering Template Manager is used to applya custom numbering scheme to your document. The Template Manager is the best tool to organizeyour templates because of Word 2000+ naming issue (limitedamount of characters to name the template) in the Style Gallerywindow. Using a menu system to organize your templates gives youunlimited options for organizing your numbering.

These templates can be used with any document and can instantlygive you over 30 different types of numbers and formats to usewithout attaching any templates to your document.

(g) Field Code Numbering System. The Field Code NumberingSystem uses field codes to produce the numbering. If you ever tried to number a document usingthis method, you can understand how complex this process can be.

This is best used to stack documents like enclosures, exhibits andother things.• Different types of numbering and formatting.• Does not interfere with headings and/or styles.• Eight levels of numbering• Three formatting options• Restart numbering option.• Keeps track of a paragraph number within the paragraph itself.• Ability to update all field codes and then return your cursor to

the document position that it started from.

(h) Pleading Paper Macro.

The pleading paper macro will not only add the pleading paperbut it fixes most incorrect paragraph formatting so that theincorrect paragraphs may conform and line up with thenumbered lines.• Adds Pleading Paper to the current header.• Searches and replaces single and double spaced paragraphs

and changes them to 12 and 24 pt.

(i) Quick Form. The Quick Form Maker is a simple system usedto add a fill-in routine with custom prompts designed by you.

• Design you own prompts with messages on what to fill-in• Designed for multiple users in mind.

Steve,

While we have decided that it would not be fruitful to pursue a Pathagoras—Infoware relationship, I do have a referral and introduction I would like to make (and I do so with permission of the refer-ee). His name is Phil Lemel and his email address is [email protected]. He has written some incredible and useful Word utilities in which I think you might be interested. See, for this page: Word2016 Utilities

I have previously worked with Phil on a major Pathagoras project and found him to be insightful in understanding customer needs and clever in his solutions. He has some dynamite products.

Steve, meet Phil. Phil, meet Steve. Steve, meet Phil. Phil, meet Steve.

SouthardSubject: Word Minuite Order Import Utility - Status of Testing

Marco,

As you and I discussed:

I have work with Phil on the text‐conversion portion of the import utility and its use from within Microsoft Word 2010.

We have conducted  numerous tests, involving real‐world samples and have been satisfied that his efforts‐to‐date have not only produced comparable‐Corel WordPerfect 7 text conversion results, but also substantial enhancements not previously included. These include tab (to 5 spaces), indent, hanging indent, first‐line indent and have also successfully addressed the paragraph and section symbol‐retention, among others.

However, because the testing utilized manual processes to insert SUSTAIN‐required formatting information into the text file and moving of the completed file into the SUSTAIN‐discoverable directory, additional Corel WordPerfect 7 import utility functions were not analyzed. These include: a template and macro (to address file configuration for insert into the SUSTAIN Application [WordPerfect Minute Order Template and minuteorderheader.wcm]); a courtroom staff file (for minute order population [staff.dat]); and another macro (to stage the resulting file for discovery and insert by the SUSTAIN Application [save.wcm]). These items were only superficially address, as the primary focus (and most critical item) was whether‐or‐not a reliable conversion process and resultant compatible file could be produced.

Additionally, Phil leveraged the pre‐existing 2005 effort on the Microsoft Word 2003 product as a baseline for some of his work. However, this previous effort does not include the more recent Corel WordPerfect 7 modifications which addressed SUSTAIN District‐specific target location output (Jane Jin was the architect in updating this component, so she should be looped in to assist.) Hopefully Phil can be authorized to undertake the modifications to these files to complete the import utility functionality as well as address some additional enhancements to the import to address page footers, underlining, centering, right flush and additional symbol validations.

Workstation support and ZenApp deployment units will also need to be read in to determine workstation standardization and deployment methodology and a target set of users to confirm the application.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Steven

From: Philip Lemel (Contractor) <[email protected]>Sent: Thursday, December 3, 2015 1:15 PMTo: [email protected]; [email protected]: Lemel, FaithSubject: Sustain - Two Paragraph Description

From: Philip Lemel (Contractor) Sent: Thursday, December 03, 2015 8:32 AM To: Marco Papa Subject: RE: Jury Duty

Oh, I got it now.  (lol)

Documents are minute orders.

Here are the two Sustain paragraphs.

The WordPerfect sustain macro uses “paste special as text” to paste text into the document which loses very important formatting like indents and hanging indents. After the paste special, the user will need to manually edit the document including adding periods in between the double paragraph mark. The users also have to handle the very complex process of producing formatting for both indents and hanging indents in a DOS environment. To achieve an indent, the user must add 5 spaces to each line of every indented paragraph while counting the characters and adding a return to insure the 54 character limit.

The Word for Windows Sustain Macro codes all paragraphs with their appropriate settings before the actual paste special as text and then reformats the document in DOS Text based on those settings. This process includes Indents, Hanging Indents, First Line Indents, Tabs and Tables while keeping the 54 Character line limitations with proper word separation. Finally, the most important feature is that the Sustain Macro is built for the future because it converts all rich text documents that contain before and after text into separate paragraphs with the appropriate paragraph markers ¶.¶.

It would be very easy to shorten it.

Thanks again

Phil

I am an officer in the United States assignments over the past nine years. officers in these assignments.

Coast Guard having served in a variety of I have served with several hundred petty

I have worked with Phil Lemel for the past two years. He is a mid-grade petty officer, Yeoman Second Class. A yeoman prepares correspondence and reports, maintains certain personnel records and files documents as needed .

Phil Lemel, while assigned at the Legal Office, has been truly outstanding in performance of his work. Court documents and pleadings for instance, must be letter-perfect. Phil has no trouble producing a letter-perfect document on any of three different word processing machines. Of course, in a legal office there are usually last minute editorial changes by the attorney creating time pressure in producing the letter-perfect document. Phil has prepared practically all of my court pleadings filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. This includes Complaints, Answers, Motions, Affidavits, Orders and Judgments. Of the four yeoman in the office, he is the only one I can consider qualified to prepare these documents.

Phil works well under pressure. This past summer I was defense counsel at a complex general court martial. Phil served as one of the two court reporters for this trial. At its conclusion Phil and the other court reporter worked ceaselessly to complete the record of trial in a timely manner. Delays in preparing a record of trial are often grounds for a defense counsel to attack the verdict on appeal. Because of the complexity of the case I expected to be able to raise the issue on appeal. Unfortunately for the defendant, but not to my suprise, Phil completed the job in six weeks. There were over one thousand pages of verbatim testimony and the record, including court papers, motions, and briefs, was over two feet thick.

Phil is also self-motivated. "Form letters" comprise much of our correspondence. Phil often notes that the form letter doesn't quite fit the situation. Without any supervision, he then modifies the document, presenting a completed final draft for an attorney's signature. His grammar, punctuation and spelling are all excellent.

Finally, I consider Phil to be highly adaptable to new technology. We recently replaced our XEROX 850 word processors with computers with word processing capability. I wrote a simple program in BASIC computer language which would combine the powers of the computer with that of the word processor producing a personalized power of attorney by answering a few questions posed by the computer. Phil seized upon this idea, expanding it greatly, and has written an extensive BASIC program which generates complete personally-tailored wills for single or married persons and

Judge Chalfant:

I was talking with Judge Kevin Brazile about how surprised I was about the skill of the independent contractor hired by the court to convert my WordPerfect macros and templates to use in Word the same way I have for years done in WordPerfect, and Judge Brazile suggested I share the experience with you.

I have been a WordPerfect user since the program was first released, and over the years have created and used many complex self‐created macros and templates that permit me to prepare documents, letters, briefs, and orders quickly, with generated tables and indexes when necessary.

Despite several efforts I have never been able to do that in Word….. until now.

I was contacted by Phillip Lemel, an independent contractor hired by the court, who took my macros and templates and created Word versions.  I was extremely skeptical that they would work appropriately or as easily, and did not think I could get by without Reveal Codes or the ability to easily modify the macros and templates, or to insert my library of saved work into Word documents.

Boy, was I surprised.   Yesterday, I met with Phillip Lemel who showed me the converted macros and templates, and installed a new LASC tab on my versions of Word.  Although there are still a couple of glitches to fix in a couple of the Macros, they worked extremely well and the same way I was used to in WordPerfect…, ie., document menus that permit easy insertion of unique information in appropriate places in templates to create unique, case specific documents like I have been doing for years in WordPerfect.

In the added LASC Tab, Phillip gave me the ability to quickly turn on and off an abbreviated version of Reveal Codes that was sufficient to help me deal with an otherwise maddening Word program, and paragraph by paragraph formatting.  Also, within the LASC tab was the ability to quickly create letters, pleadings, and even appellate briefs, and a WordPerfect “cleanup” click button that seemed to fix most problems in WordPerfect documents opened in Word.

It is not a completely perfect conversion, and I have yet to learn how to generate tables and indexes with them, but so far it has been a quick conversion that I was able to comfortably do with not too much effort so far.  Pretty amazing for someone who said they could never use Word as efficiently and effectively as WordPerfect.
