THE ISLE OF WIGHT COLLEGE IS FULLY COMMITTED TO MEETING

BUSINESS COMMUNITY.
It has a key role in supporting the Island’s workforce and economic
development, to ensure that businesses can thrive and grow because
they have the correct skills. It is our mission, to work with employers
and the business community to shape and influence college provision,
so that skills shortages can be addressed.
The college has a dedicated team in the business development unit
which focuses on employer training and development. With a team of
business development officers, who specialise in various courses and
training, ranging from short courses to apprenticeships and work-based
qualifications, we aim to consult with you and develop the training you
need. We are here to discuss your requirements and welcome the
opportunity to come and discuss these in your workplace.
This directory enables you to find courses and training, offers various
modes of delivery, such as taught workshops, E learning, distance
learning, work-based assessment and apprenticeships. However this
list is by no means exhaustive and we are able to arrange bespoke,
customised courses on request so please don’t hesitate to contact us

Having lived and worked on the Islandfor 20 years, with a previousbackground of investment banking,economic development and training,Janet has extensive experience ofworking in business and skills.
As Head of Workforce Development,Janet is responsible for ensuring thatthe Isle of Wight College is meetingeconomic and business needs, workingwith external partners and organisationsto identify better ways for employersand businesses to access high qualitytraining and skills.

This is something thatKatie is well placed to do after nearly 15 years within the Education andTraining sector and gaining her Cert Edand A1 amongst other relevantqualifications. PAUL BUCKLAND
Paul Buckland has worked in the FurtherEducation sector since 1991. During thistime he has taught on a range ofprogrammes in Hospitality and TeacherTraining. During the last twelve yearsPaul’s main role as a Head ofDepartment has been CurriculumDevelopment and designing bespokeprogrammes for Employers. Other rolesinclude mentoring and coaching ofteachers new to education and todeveloping the college’s internationalmarkets. He has also planned anddeveloped the colleges in house CPD events five times a year.
Paul still has a passion for teaching andbeing in the classroom and will often be found sharing his knowledge on firstclass customer service for businesses orsupporting young up and coming chefs.

MICHELLE SCOTT
Michelle has been working at The Isle ofWight College since 2003 and is mainlyresponsible for working with employersin the construction industry, which alsoincludes electrical installation, gas andplumbing. The main focus of her role isin providing appropriate short coursesfor contractors, reacting to the changingneeds of industry. Michelle is also thecontact for First Aid and Health andSafety short courses. The Collegemanages the Isle of Wight ConstructionTraining Group for CITB registeredcompanies, Michelle is the TrainingOfficer for the Group. This involvesidentifying company training needs, and supporting members withdevelopment of training plans, which inturn informs future course requirements.

OMAR LAKHSSASSI
Employer Liaison Officer for IslandTraining, Omar works closely with localemployers, identifying training needsand advising them on suitable trainingschemes for their workforce as well asrecruiting and matching candidates toany apprenticeship or work placementsthat they may have available.
Having lived on the Island all his life,Omar has a good understanding of the unique factors that face Islandemployers, and has worked in a varietyof fields, including tourism, education,marketing, broadcast media, and eventmanagement.

The Isle of Wight College offers localbusinesses and individuals access tohigh quality training across a widerange of industry sectors. We provideflexible and supportive work basedtraining to all ages through the NationalApprenticeship Scheme and offer thewidest range of Apprenticeshipprovision on The Isle of Wight.
Apprenticeships are work based trainingprogrammes designed to meet theneeds of employers and their industrysectors. Awards are achieved throughassessment and training and arecompetence based with a mixture of onthe job training and college attendance.
Apprenticeships usually take 1 to 2 yearsto complete and entry requirementsvary depending on the industry sectorand level of qualification. Employers will benefit from an apprentice who issupported, engaged, motivated andtrained to a high standard. Anapprentice will earn a wage, get paidholidays, receive training and gain anationally recognised qualification.

INTERMEDIATE (LEVEL 2)
These provide the skills you need foryour chosen career and allow entry toan Advanced Apprenticeship. For somesectors there is an entry criteria basedon GCSE’s and equivalents.
ADVANCED (LEVEL 3)
To start this Apprenticeship, you shouldideally have five GCSEs (grade C orabove) or have completed a Level 2Intermediate Apprenticeship.
HIGHER (LEVEL 4)
These Apprenticeships work towardsqualifications such as NVQ Level 4 and,in some cases, a knowledge-basedqualification such as a Higher NationalCertificate or Diploma.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
The course is for those interested inpursuing a career in accounting orfinance, and those who already work inthis area and want a nationallyrecognised qualification. The course cansupport a student in progressing ontothe Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The AAT Level 2 course covers allaspects of accounting including basicfinancial accounting, basic costaccounting, computerised accounting,and working effectively in accountingand finance. A detailed prospectus isavailable for each level of AAT and moreinformation is available on the AATwebsite at www.aat.org.uk
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Level 2 students will be required toattend college for 3 hours per week over
one year. Classes will combineconventional lectures with practical taskbased learning exercises.
In addition to scheduled classesstudents are provided with work bookswhich they are expected to study andwork through at home. Students shouldexpect to study at home for a minimumof 3 hours per week.
Students will also be given guidance onhow to use the college intranet,including Moodle.
Assessment at Level 2 is primarily bycomputer based examinations set by theAAT.

double entry book-keeping are likely tofind it beneficial to enrol on the 6 weekBasic Bookkeeping course, offeredthrough the Adult Educationdepartment at the college, prior totaking the entrance test for AAT Level 3(note this will not guarantee successfulentry to the AAT).
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
The course is for those wishing topursue a career in accountancy, andthose who already work in this area andwant a nationally recognised accountingqualification.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Students who achieve the AAT Level 3Diploma in Accounting also achieve 160UCAS points.
