As you will notice in this newsletter, constructionhas been a major topic of conversation aroundTrail Ridge these past few months. With the

cold and harsh winter behind us, the constructionscompanies have been able to catch up on the project. The new assisted living building, pool, wellness areaand new kitchen are schedule to open in Novemberof this year. The new memory care and theremodeling of the main building are still scheduledto be complete in May of 2015. This is truly anexciting time at Trail Ridge as we watch the buildinggo up. Come out and see all the activity anytime, there is always someone to show you around.

As we expand our campus we also look to improveour services, and in fact recently we conducted twosatisfaction surveys. One survey was given toresidents and the other to staff members. Theinformation gathered through these surveysprovides us with valuable feedback and ideas duringthis time of transformation. The information is then

reviewed by a number ofTrail Ridge teams who lookfor comments and ideasexpressed in the survey andbegin to develop plans tomake changes whereneeded. This process, whichwe have been using fornearly 10 years, is veryempowering and enableseveryone at Trail Ridge tovoice their opinion and haveinput to the solution.

As far as the survey results, I am pleased to say thefeedback has been very positive.

Just another reminder, stop out and see what ishappening at Trail Ridge. It is truly amazing howfast the project changes from day to day.

God Bless, - ALLEN

One of the aspects of life we South Dakotans aremore than a little familiar with is . . . the wind. While it doesn’t blow all the time, it’s a pretty good

bet that if it’s calm right now, it won’t be for long. In fact,if my memory serves me correctly, the main femalecharacter goes crazy in O.E. Rolvaag’s Giants in the Earth, the tale of early Norwegian immigrants in eastern SouthDakota, because of . . . the unrelenting wind.

But I have to confess as a small boat sailor that I wouldhave rather have the wind than dead calm. When yourboat doesn’t have a motor, it’s no fun being stranded twomiles off shore on Oahe Reservoir during a race series, asElaine and I once were north of Pierre.

The same applies in life: I’d rather be moved along by theHoly Spirit than to sit becalmed, so to speak, in an inertstate. This is a pretty good analogy, since in the Greeklanguage in which the New Testament was written, the

same word, pneuma, is used for bothwind and spirit.

So, if you’re languishing in a too-safeharbor in life, it makes sense to praythat the Holy Spirit would blow somespiritual, wake-up wind into yourmind, heart, and body. I have alwaysliked the old hymn, “I Feel the Windsof God Today.” One of the verses goeslike this: “It is the wind of God thatdries my vain regretful tears/ Until with braver thoughtsshall the purer, brighter years/ If cast on shares of selfishease or pleasure I should be,/ Lord, let me feel thefreshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea.” Is this yourtime to cast off and put back to sea. The wind of the Spiritis blowing.
