ince I have been in this Faculty,

many have asked me, as well as my

friends, why study literature. At first, I have

to say there are thousands reasons for

different students to spend their four years

(or more) here, because advantages of

studying literature may vary for individuals.

And my answer to the question is because

literary study has these benefits for me.

First of all, to study literature makes

me more focused than to study complex

science or boring mathematics. One of the

main reasons is because it is fun! Reading a

novel is full of emotions. Empathy with the

characters makes acknowledgement. There

is no doubt why we spend a lot of time

reading literature in our hobbies. Moreover,

many literatures are less difficult than

science or math, for me. As a drama is more

relatable than abstract numbers, I am likely

to follow what is easier more.

Second, literature helps improve my

language skill. They say literature is where

the language is most beautiful. Reading a lot

of these works could help enlarge

vocabulary, because there are countless

words authors have chosen to describe

his/her world. Furthermore, those words can

be used in my own works or inspire me to

think of a creative way to express the

feelings. Thus, literary study can enhance

both reading and writing skills.

Finally, literature can teach us about

everything. As a story can be about

anything, there is no limit of knowledge in

literature. We can learn about love, politics,

religions, etc. This tends to make learners

more open-minded, as we are expected to

understand others and, of course, ourselves.

In addition, boundless knowledge may lead

to limitless careers. What I mean is we can

do whatever we can think of for a living..

This is freedom, as many would love to

have.

In conclusion, my reasons that I

chose Faculty of Arts are because I enjoy

literature and also want to learn many things

about languages and the world at the same

time. It may not be the best field for

everyone to learn, but this Faculty may fit

me the best.

Humans are creators:

Art, beautiful poems, music, rockets, electricity, Eiffel tower,

literature, wars, deforestation, global warming, capitalism …

It seems that while we introduce some new modern innovation to the world our

selfishness and ignorant also make us disasters.

Today, we, ignite magazine, want to ask for your opinions of “If you were God, what

is the only one quality of human that you want to add or eliminate the most,

why?”

Let’s see some of interesting answers we have here!

"I would like to diminish human primal

instinct. Well, I understand that it's important

for the existence. What I want to see is that we

give more empathy to one another, especially, in

hard times. We should share instead of take

everything to ourselves.”

-Khaopoon, Arts student

"Positive thinking system, we all should be more positive!"

-Cherry, Arts student

"Umm, the brain that will always think twice (or

three times or four times) before doing something

to someone. Like, if you want to slap your friend's

face your brain will ask 'will you like it if it was

yourself who be hit?" I think it will help people to be

more attentive and sympathetic."

-Famai, Law student, TU

“"I would get rid of the faith in God. Why?

People do a lot of bad things, violently, to

other saying to protect their God. But it’s not

often true, they just protect themselves; their

power, flame, wealth, etc. This fact is kind of

sad for me as a God. However, this may be

pointless, without God they will still find

other excuses.”

How The Most Dangerous

Game Should Have Ended;

or Real Hunter would never

be Hunted Adapted from the work of Richard Connell

Written by Rosaline

Rainsford reached the shore not very far from

the chateau.

He found one big shady tree surrounded by a

thick growth of other trees and high grass, so

he decided to take some rest for a while under

it. Being so exhausted but nervous, he

couldn’t sleep. He had to make a plan to

escape from this deadly island.

While he was lost in his thought, his hand

touched something strange on the ground.

It was a small hole and aside it lay a bunch of

grass lower than others.

He groped it and discovered that it was a

trapdoor covered with dirt and grass. He

opened it and climbed down the rope ladder

with curiosity.

Down in the hole, it was a small trench shelter

for human. A mattress with blanket lay on the

muddy ground along with some dried food, a

few gallons of water, and a small radio

transmitter.

He looked around to search for the inhabitant.

Suddenly, someone attacked him from

behind.

He turned against the attacker to protect

himself and declared that he means well and

that he was just finding a way to get out of

this island.

The man stared at Rainsford and then stopped

to apologize and introduce himself.

He is a police officer from New York who

had hidden here for a week to investigate.

His squad had been reported about missing

people lost at sea, so they detected the cases,

and their investigation led him to this

mysterious ship-trap island.

He suspected that General Zaroff was behind

this kidnapping and cruel slaughter, but he

had not found any evidence or witness to

legally arrest and prosecute Zaroff as

everyone had been killed.

Rainsford then revealed that he was one of

the victim and willing to be the plaintiff and

witness to testify against Zaroff. The police

officer then sent a message via his radio

transmitter to his squad in the US.

In the next few days, the police yacht arrived

at the island. Zaroff, without any alarm, was

arrested right away at his chateau.

Along the way to New York, Rainsford was

smoking his cigarette on the afterdeck while

recalling the past event that had just

happened to his life. He thought about his

former conversation with Whitney and his

feeling when he was hunted like an animal.

Everything on the yacht seemed in order on

the next morning. Rainsford enjoyed his

peaceful sleep until he heard the noise of

people shouting and their steps running

chaotically around the yacht.

Zaroff was gone.

He had killed the guard and had disappeared

with one of the lifeboats since the previous

night.

Rainsford afterward found the note he left for

him in the room he used to be locked up.

I congratulate you for your

victory, my friend. But a hunter

like me will never surrender to

be a prey.

How Jabberwocky Should

Have Ended; or Behind the

Scene of “Jabberwocky”

Adapted from the work of Lewis Carroll

Written by Peep

Is it good that a child got praised

because of violence he had done?

Is the monster monstrous by its nature or

human’s frame?

“ `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought --

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;

All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe. ”

(Caroll)

In the wood, the eyes opened wide.

Clot of blood brings a new life.

The mask. Promise, they had made,

The ‘monstrous’ soul still survive

The Jabberwock yet has not died.

Bloody hands with papa’s praise.

Pure soul with malefic mind.

So pity, an innocent child.

Friday-before-bed Feeling

Friday night,

as I'm lying in bed

imagine myself floating peacefully

in the calm ocean water.

When the violent storm,

called ‘weekday’,

has passed.

I'll always put the headphones on

for my favorite songs

or I'll be reading

my favorite stories

to recharge my energy

and be ready to fight

the even bigger upcoming storms

called

'life.’

escaping the reality for a while

under the lamp-light’s the best thing

to do on Friday night, don’t you agree?

I don't care if Monday's blue

Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too.

Thursday I don't care about you.

It's Friday, I'm in love.

Monday you can fall apart.

Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart

Thursday doesn't even start

It's Friday I'm in love.

The Cure - Friday I’m in love

I was thinking about you again tonight, like when Friday was ours.

Splendid sky reminds me of your beauty.

Green refreshing forest reminds me of our conversation.

And blue wavy sea reminds me of you.

Tonight I was in beautiful scenery, and thinking about you so badly.

Film Review

Get Out (2017, Jordan Peele)

★★★ (out of 4)

Came out of nowhere, this stunning

mystery-horror, and, perhaps, comedy film

seems to success in surprising everyone

how far it can goes. Get Out is a very

creepy, very scary and very entertaining to

watch.

In the hands of comedian turned director

Jordan Peele, Get Out tells a story of Chris

(Daniel Kaluuya), the black man who is in

the beginning of the interracial relationship

with his beautiful young white girlfriend,

Rose (Allison Williams) and he is going to

meet her family for the first time. Although

they are aware of the fact that he is black

and feel uncomfortable surrounded by all

white people, everything seems to be fine.

Until he starts to realize there is something

unusual going on under the surface.

A famous comedian known as a one of the

two icons of a popular online show Key &

Peele that went viral around the world,

Jordan Peele said that sometimes he feels

awkward when he is an only black around

and he wanted to tell a story from a

perspective of someone who dealing with

that through his movie.

In this film, Peele does well in combining

the taste of psychological horror with the

sense of dark-humor. He understands the

seriousness of this kind of stuff and, also,

he is able to find the considerable humor in

it. Although the film has some common

elements in stereotypical horror genre, such

as jump-scare, something suddenly pop out

in front of you and the feeling of being

watched, it also deal with issue of racism

that still exist in society till today. (The title

‘Get Out’ sends the message about being

racist and social hierarchy. The scene that

the character says this word is genius.)

Unfortunately, the film seems to rely too

much on the sound editing, which is pretty

well-done, but in some scene it is just too

much that I felt shocked and scared not

because of the thrilled atmosphere but for

the loudness of the score. In addition, the

plot, even was well-written, might be too

predictable for people who get used to

horror and plot-twisted films

Apart from the movie itself, the movie

trailer appears to be the worst part of the

whole thing. It totally spoils almost every

major scene in the movies, which supposes

to be surprise and fresh. Moreover, they

even cut some scene from the trailer out and

I really hate when they do this. It is very

confusing. If you want to enjoy this movie,

I recommend you not to watch the trailer at

all and go straight to the cinema.
