This course aims to provide participants with the opportunity to

link the theory of TESOL with classroom practice andfoster their teaching skills through microteaching andpeer observation.

introduces participants to general pedagogicalaspects of language teaching and enable them topractice and form basic teaching and classroommanagement techniques, focusing on teaching thethree sub-skills: Vocabulary, Pronunciation, andGrammar.

serves as a foundation for participants to furtherdevelop their teaching skills in the other twoTeaching Practice  courses in the programme.

In this course, participants will engage in thefollowing key issues:

microteaching; classroom observation and feedback;

managing the classroom;

lesson planning; and

On completion of this course, participants will have fostered

their knowledge and understanding of microteaching,observation, and classroom management;

the ability to teach the three sub-skills: Vocabulary,Pronunciation, and Grammar;

the ability to prepare and present effective languagelessons;

the ability to work individually and collaboratively; the ability to observe and evaluate their peers’ teaching;  the ability to give critical and constructive feedback to

others; and thereby the ability to make critical reflection and improve their

own teaching skills.

1. Lesson plan and microteaching:

Each participant will prepare a 45-minutelesson plan for the microteachingdemonstration on one of these three sub-skillsof his/her own choice (at a pre-intermediate

level, two 1.5 spaced pages max/each). The microteaching section must be clearly

shown in the lesson plan and will take 15minutes.

Lesson plan template: please follow the sampleprovided by the Faculty.

Grades

Assignment due dates: For late submitted work, 20% of thecomponent grades will be deducted per day.Student Expectations

Attendance Policy: Attendance in all sessions is stronglyrecommended. Participants are required to give advance noticeof their absence in case of illness or any other situations;however, they must attend at least 80% of the sessions in orderto pass the course.

Professionalism Policy: Participants are expected to be wellprepared and take an active role in class discussions and workcollaboratively with their peers. Also, phones must be off or onbuzz.

Academic Integrity: Failure of the assignment will be imposed as

a penalty for cheating and plagiarism.
