1. Once control has been established, any part of the offensive or defensive wrestler finishing on or inside the 10 foot circle in the center of the mat, during a take down, will reward the Offensive wrestler with a 3 point take down. Take downs anywhere else on the mat will be awarded the traditional 2 points for the offensive wrestler. Rationale: Promotes wrestling in the center of the mat. Highlights which wrestler wants to wrestle in the center of the mat and not use the out of bounds line for “safety.” Makes out of bounds stall calls easier for the officials.
2. College out of bounds. Wrestling will continue as long as either wrestler have ANY body part on or inside the out of bounds line. Any scoring situation will be rewarded as long as EITHER wrestler remain on or inside the out of bounds line. Wrestling will stop when BOTH wrestlers have all of their body parts out of bounds. Rationale: Promotes continues wrestling. Rewards the aggressive wrestler for continue to wrestle while in bounds. Highlights what wrestler wants to use the edge of the mat for “safety” and stall.
3. College near fall. A 2 or 3 near fall count will reward the offensive wrestler with 2 near fall points. A 4 near fall count from the official will reward the offensive wrestler with 4 near fall points. No 5 count or 3 point near fall. Rationale: Promotes aggressive wrestling in the offensive position and rewards the aggressive wrestler for attempting to pin his/her opponent.

Welcome to all the outstanding athletes, coaches, supportive families and loyal fans of wrestling to the 2nd annual Best of the Northwest Wrestling Tournament. This tournament features the TOP HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLERS of Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
Our goals are:
• to recognize wrestlers for their achievements• to promote and grow wrestling in the Northwest• to provide a venue for elite high school wrestlers to compete against proven champions
of the Northwest• to provide athletes an opportunity to meet and network with college coaches of wrestling
programs• to provide the top Oregon placers an opportunity to represent Oregon on the Oregon
national team.
Wrestlers work constantly training and preparing for the state tournament and this allows them an additional opportunity to compete and showcase their talents and abilities at the season’s end.
It is a great accomplishment to qualify and compete in this tournament. It is a tournament of champions. All who compete regardless of the outcomes are proven winners. This tournament provides a unique opportunity for the best of the best to test their skills, preparation and determination against one another at a high level of competition. It allows very successful high school student athletes the opportunity for continued improvement.
We are very fortunate to have college coaches from across the country scouting future talent. The strength, determination and talent of our wrestlers will be showcased at this event. It is an exciting event for all athletes, coaches, families and fans. I am confident that there will be many competitors participating in this tournament that will go on and be successful wrestlers at the collegiate level.
We at the Best of the Northwest are appreciative of the sponsorships and volunteer efforts that are necessary for the tournament to be successful. We would especially like to thank Anji Weissenfluh, Dustyn Azure, Ty Vincent and the great staff at EOU for their help in hosting this tournament.
Please take time to thank the generous sponsors and supporters for making this event possible.
Have fun and Good Luck!

Dear Parents and Fans, welcome to the Best of the Northwest wrestling tournament at Eastern Oregon University! On behalf of the athletics programs, I want to thank you for your attendance and for your support of athletics in general.
Students obtain many positive educational benefits from participating in athletics. Research indicates that those students involved in interscholastic activities make higher grades and have better attendance, have fewer discipline problems and a lower dropout rate, and are more likely to be successful in their chosen profession and make creative contributions to their community. In addition, students learn lifelong lessons pertaining to responsibility, self-discipline, team work, work ethic, integrity, personal sacrifice and sportsmanship.
Obtaining these benefits would not be possible without your support. You can continue your support of our students by adhering to the following guidelines:
• Realize that a ticket is a privilege to observe a contest and support a high school activity, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious.
• Respect the decisions made by contest officials. Be an exemplary role model by positively supporting teams and athletes in every manner. Encourage your athletes—don’t discourage their competition.
• Respect the fans, coaches, and participants from the opposing schools.
Thanks for your courtesy and enjoy the tournament.
Sportsmanship Matters
Spectator Conduct

3. Spectators shall not be permitted to use vulgar/offensive or racially/culturally insensitive language. Spectators shall not be permitted to engage in any racially/culturally insensitive action.
4. All cheers, comments, and actions shall be in direct support of one’s team. No cheers, comments, or actions shall be directed at one’s opponent or at contest officials. Some examples of inappropriate conduct or actions that are not permitted are: disrespecting athletes; negative cheers or chants; throwing objects on the floor.
5. Spectators who fail to comply with Association or site management spectator conduct expectations may be expelled from the contest.
