Electronics
Europe’s electrical system is different from the United States’ in two different ways:The voltage of the currentThe shape of the plug
Then… there’s the case of the adaptor and the converter
AdaptorYou will need this in order to plug into the outlet
ConverterAmerican appliances run on 110 volts, while
European ones run on 220. You must be able to ‘convert’ the voltage for your appliance.
Some appliances have the converter built-in: like most laptops
Many appliances today are “dual-voltage”: check the little tag affixed to the appliance’s electrical cord
It may actually be easier to buy a new cheap dual-voltage appliance, rather than purchasing a converter
‘Checked’ & ‘Carry-On’
What goes in checked and what goes in carry-on

Packing your instruments
Get foam rubberYou’re going to insert a layer on top of the
instrument (between the instrument and the lid)
Slice it thin…to the thinness needed for your instrument and case, but firm
Consider a firm strap for the outside of the case…as a reinforcement and prevention against the case popping open in transit
Jet Lag ---and your first day over there Leave home well-rested
Reset your mind for the local, as well as your watch, as you are boarding the plane, or sooner!
On the flight, drink plenty of liquids, eat lightly, and rest
Try to countermand the effects of dehydration --- a primary cause of jet lag
Upon arrival, do not sleep(!)…stay awake until an mid-evening (not overly late) bedtime
Managing to get a good 6/7 hours of sleep on the first night in Salzburg will hasten the transition to local time
