PSLE 2016

• In 2016, our first full cohort of students sat

for the PSLE.

Absent during Bite-sized Assessments

A student who is absent from any bite-sized assessment with or without

a Valid Reason (VR)

- may sit for it if he returns within 3 working days after the actual

date of assessment. Marks obtained will be computed

- will not sit for the assessment if he/she returns after the 3 working

days’ grace period. Overall marks will be pro-rated to

100%. However, the assessment (except for performance task) will

be given to the students for revision.

Absent during Semestral Assessments

a) Absent with a valid reason – If a student is physically unwell, the student must have a

valid medical certificate issued by a doctor. A medical issued by a Chinese physician or

a letter from parent/guardian will not be accepted .

b) Absent without a valid reason – If a student is absent for an examination and does not

have a valid reason e.g.: student is unwell and is without a medical certificate or only

has a letter from parent/guardian, aa zero will be given for the paper.

c) There is no make-up examination for a student who is absent for any written

examination. Students who are absent will be given the written paper as practice at a

later date. For oral examination, the student who is absent with a valid reason will be

allowed to sit for it within 3 days after the last day of the oral examination.

d) If a student is unwell on the day of the examination, he/she will not be allowed to sit for

the paper. The teacher will contact the parent/guardian to bring the student home to

see a doctor.

Unwell on the day of Assessments

If a student is unwell on the day of the test,

- he will not sit for the paper. He will be advised to go

home and rest.

- No special arrangements will be made for students

who have to leave school early or come late on

examination days. They are expected to seek medical

advice first and get well before coming back to school

to sit for their examinations.

Homework Policy

What is homework?

Any learning activity that students are required to complete

outside of curriculum time.

Assignments and Projects are considered as homework.

Revision of school work or studying for tests and exams are

not considered homework.

There is a difference between class work that a student did not

complete in class and work that is assigned as ‘homework’

Promoting a balanced life for our students

No homework will be given on holidays

accorded for religious observances and

racial celebration e.g. Hari Raya, Good

Friday. This is to recognise that homework

will mean time taken away from family

bonding and family commitments.

Homework is regulated and monitoredso that there is no overload on any one day.

E/M/MTL will not all assign homeworkon one day for completion by the next day.Teachers will write on the whiteboardwork assigned for their respective subjectsto help monitor this. Sufficient lead time is given for completion.

Homework submission date is made known to pupils.

Based on individual student needs,homework can be modified and scaled down or scaled up.

• Please ensure that nametags are ironed or

sewn on by Term 1 Week 5.

– For formal uniform, nametags are to be sewn

1 cm above the pocket for boys.

– For girls, it should be in the middle of the

second button and side of the sleeves.

socks are worn only. Shoes and socks

cannot come with coloured

stripes/trimmings.

• Headgear of any type e.g. hoods,

hats/caps, scarves, is not allowed

• No make up/ tattoo/accessory of any type

handbook.

Punctuality

• Silent reading starts at 7.40 a.m.; students are expected to participate in this.

• Flag-raising ceremony will start at 7.50 a.m. so that classes can start promptly at 8 a.m.

• When students are late for school, it causes stress to the child and this affects their readiness for class.

• Students need to develop the habit to being punctual.

• Students are to read their English storybooks from Monday to Thursday and Mother Tongue books on Friday.

Have you ever wonder why some people are so successful and well like by others while some find it

hard to piece things together in their life? This has a lot to do with our intelligence and how we

perceive and manage issues.

The level of IQ or Intelligence Quotient defines how smart a person is. People used to associate

how successful a person by how ‘smart’ he is. However, how ‘smart’ a person is a contribution of

many areas. So IQ alone cannot be used to determine the level of success a person.

Another big contribution to the success of a person is the Emotion Quality, commonly known as EQ.

EQ deals with self-awareness, interpersonal and social skills, empathy and self-control. EQ is a great

arena of leadership but it alone may not lead one to success.

Adversity Quotient, AQ, the least heard of all the three is another important aspect of being

successful in life. AQ allows one to face and problem solve in time of adversity. Success is

impossible without AQ as the path to success is full of ups and downs.
