DESCRIPTION
Growth in developed and developing regions The next two slides show that de problems caused by the actual population growth seem to be limited to the developing countries, since growth in advanced industrial societies has stopped in the last few decades. However, the problems of overpopulation as well as those of overindustrialization are felt everywhere. The concept of globalization should refer more to social, cultural, political, ecological, psychological and health challenges than to mere economical exchanges. The migration either voluntary or forceful of millions of inhabitants from the developing areas into the highly developed ones ascertain that the developed societies cannot be immune to these problems in spite of their zero population growth.(which brings other type of problems, of course).TRANSCRIPT
Total World Population.
The next slide presents the estimated total World population from 1600 bc to our present XXI Century.
It is obvious that such growth cannot continue. There is a limit to everything, including technology. The probable limit for a sustainable total world population has been set between nine and eleven billions. However, even with our actual six billion inhabitants, the signs of cultural and social disintegration, decomposition and decadence are surfacing everywhere. We cannot turn around saying that those are just natural problems of modernity or that eventually we will find the way to feed those hungry people, thinking that their only expectation in life and for life is a plate of beans.

Differences in the main developing areas
Even though the population growth problem seems to be restricted to the Third World, there are significant differences. If the information is reliable, the size of the problem seems to be less for Latin America and worst for South-East Asia. Latin America includes Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean region, plus all South-America. However the differences seem to be mostly in quantities, since the qualitative aspects associated with this situation are very similar all over. On the other hand, there are multiple pockets of poverty (Third World asset) right in the middle of NY, CHI, LA, London, Paris, etc.

World resources crisis
This next slide presents the shrinking process of the most precious world resources just in the last 25 years of the XX Century, to wit , arable land and water availability.
To these you have to add, the constant and accelerated extinction of animal and vegetal species, all things involved in environmental pollution, and worst of all, the shrinking of life quality expectations for billions of inhabitants, not just in developing areas but everywhere, as shown by criminality, violence, drug addiction, fear, envy, selfishness, neurosis and despair.

What’s in the future ?
So, there is a World Crisis, but the demographic situation is only one of its ingredients. Apparently this crisis is just one of the many signs of a true Civilization conflict between established cultural conventions and new needs and ideas.
The social order, fundamental tool for any civilization to exist and prevail, apparently was based first on the beliefs provided by religions. When these became insufficient and were overtaken by scientific beliefs and technological feats, there was a temporal zone of intense conflict between the old and the new paradigms.
Now, when science and technology are giving strong signs of in turn becoming insufficient, and ethic and esthetic paradigms seem to be replacing them, a new strong temporal zone of cultural and social conflict seems inevitable, as shown in the next slide.
