KEY TASKS Electrical

� Attend vocational training with the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in the way of classroom based learning in residential blocks at Cairns TAFE.

� Undertake necessary practical on the job training and record within eProfiling (theory based

assessments)

� Demonstrate skills learned through competency based assessments in the time allocated. � Participate in hands-on learning by assisting tradespeople on scheduled maintenance

activities, new construction works and specific tasks which could include, but not be limited to, any or all activities below at any given time:

o Wiring connections in residential houses and/or Council buildings

o Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults

o Install appliances, switchgear, and circuits

o Maintenance/repair of electrical installations

o Develop/connect electrical control circuits

o Testing/Tagging electrical equipment

o Install/maintain telecommunication cabling

o Setting out construction sites

o Construction site tidiness and security

o Maintain/update any necessary computer records/job cards/etc.

o Responsible use of work motor vehicles and/or plant � Assist Tradesmen with quick response to safety issues and emergency repair works as

directed. � Complete and submit weekly timesheets and applicable leave or travel allowance forms. � Operate and undertake preventative maintenance as and when required of small hand and

power tools relevant to the electrical trade job requirements. e.g. generators, power drills, circuit testers, etc. to ensure good working condition of all Council equipment.

General � Participate in special projects and perform any other duties as required.

PREFERRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS � Minimum entry requirements a pass in Year 12 Maths, Science and English

� Possession of or willingness to obtain a White Card - General Construction Induction course (previously known as the Blue Card course).

� Basic skills in using computer software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. � An open C class Queensland Drivers Licence would be highly desirable.

� A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of languages specific to the Torres Strait including: Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, and Creole would be highly desirable

OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Frequent travel throughout the Torres Strait Islands is a requirement of this position. The preferred applicant may be required to apply for a National Police Certificate before appointment. TSIRC employees may be required to have immunisations as a control measure against infectious disease if there is a requirement to travel. The employee shall comply with relevant WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and Council’s Workplace Health and Safety Management System. Specifically, the employee shall be aware of, and comply with, WHS Responsibility Statement relevant to the position. Where the health and safety requirements of your duties are identified as high risk those tasks will be allocated according to your capability & level of training. The position may involve and is not limited to the following physical capabilities: a) possible use of hand held power tools b) lifting c) kneeling d) sitting e) squatting f) bending g) reaching h) repetitive movements and i) exposure to working at heights and confined spaces The position involves working in temperature extremes and exposure to outdoor elements whilst conducting field work, audits, etc. Secondment to another organisation, outside the Torres Strait may be required where Council is experiencing a temporary low work volume, to achieve balanced trade skills and successfully complete the required competencies of UEE30811 Certificate III in Electro Technology Electrician. The employee is expected to carry out their duties in accordance with the relevant legislation and Council policies including but not limited to: a) workplace health and safety b) anti-discrimination c) equal employment opportunity d) confidentiality e) local government principles and f) Ailan Kastom and g) The Council visions and values listed on the next page
