Game 3: Toronto 4, Washington 3 (OT) The Capitals jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the opening five minutes of the game, the first played in Toronto, on goals scored byNicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. Toronto cut the deficit to one goal before the end of the first period on a goal by AustonMatthews. Washington extended their lead to 3-1 early in the second period when Evgeny Kuznetsov scored at 5:39 of the frame. TheMaple Leafs responded later in the second when Nazem Kadri scored at 15:13 and William Nylander tied the game at 3-3 with 40seconds remaining in the period. Tyler Bozak scored the game-winning goal on the power play in overtime at 1:37 of the extra frame.Frederik Andersen made 23 saves in the win, while Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots for Washington. Game 4: Washington 5, Toronto 4 The Capitals got off to another quick start in game four of the series, taking a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. Mike Babcock coached the Maple Leafs to a 40-27-15 record in 2016-17, his 14th season as an NHL head coach and his second season withToronto, to bring his career record to 596-354-19-145.
