them
Round or Flat?• Cornell Notes Question:
– How can I tell if a character is round or flat?
• Write down characteristics of the character.• If your list is long, with many characteristics,
then the character is round.
• If your list is short, not many characteristics at all, then the character is flat.
Internal Change Cornell Notes Question: --What is internal change?
• changes which occur within the characterExamples: • a change in his/her personality • a change in his/her outlook on life,• a change in his/her values• overall change in the nature of the character.
Static• Cornell notes Question:
– What is a static character?
• Static = not moving or changing • the character remains basically the same
throughout the entire story. • The character does not undergo any internal
changes (changed WITHIN themselves)
Dynamic• Cornell Notes Question:
– What is a dynamic character?
• a character that undergoes an internal change sometime between the beginning and end of the story.
• The change in the character is usually crucial (important) to the story itself.
DynamicEXAMPLE:
•Say a main character goes through a life-altering experience, such as a race car driver getting into an accident. If the driver's personality changes, and he is no longer willing to take on the risk of driving a race car, the character would be dynamic.
Static or Dynamic?• Cornell Notes Question:
– How can I tell if a character is static or dynamic?
Ask these 3 questions:
1. How does the character feel about him/her/itself?
2. How does the character act towards others?
3. What is the character’s goal?
Have the answers to these questions changed from the beginning to end of the story?
