Oftentimes, it is a dynamic media presence that helps spread the good news about our strong
education system and all of the positive things taking place on a regular basis. From awards and
recognitions, to important changes and advisories, the media is crucial to our efforts in keeping the
public informed about what is taking place in the Henry County Schools. The conveying of
accurate information is paramount which is why we provide as much detail and accuracy as
possible when sharing information with the news media. Efficiency is a goal of ours, but accuracy
and following federal and state laws are most important.
All media should observe the following requests of the Central Office and Communications Office:
Any requests for interviews of administrators, staff (classified and certified), or students
must first go through the Communications Office in conjunction with the Superintendent’s
Office.
Student interviews must have parental observance or written consent/release to take place.
All media (and visitors in general) must follow school visitor policies, which require
visiting the front office. Media should notify the principal upon their arrival and departure
at any school.
Laws & Observances:
FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99)
School records and students’ privacy are protected under this law. FERPA is a federal law
that protects the privacy of student education records and limits information a school system may
release about a student without parental or legal guardian consent. Examples of information that
are protected include: student grades, disciplinary records, or academic programs (i.e. Special
Education placement).
Open Records Act of Georgia (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et. seq.)
Students aren’t the only persons protected by laws limiting personal information.
Employees of the Henry County Schools who may come into the public spotlight will not have
their personal information released by the Henry County Schools. The school system follows the
Open Records Act of Georgia, but there are still certain items that by law cannot be shared with the
public.

Henry County has been recognized as one of the fastest growing counties, not only in Georgia, but in the United States. Located south of Atlanta and intersected by Interstate 75, the county is home to a large population due to proximity to a variety of key items which enhance the quality of life for its residents. One key component is the quality of schools. With such a fast growing population, Henry County Schools has built 32 schools in the past 14 years. There has also been the building of a Performing Arts Center and the completion of a renovated Administrative Offices building.
There are 50 schools that make up the school district. There are also athletic complexes at high schools and some middle schools.
Led by Mr. Allen Guimarin (Executive Director) and his staff of over 100 employees, the Facilities and Maintenance Department ensures numerous projects and tasks come to fruition. Facilities and Maintenance covers the following areas: Building Maintenance, Construction, Environmental & Supply Services, Facility Planning, & Grounds Maintenance.
E-SPLOST Since 1997, the voters of Henry County have supported an Educational Special-Purpose Local-
Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) referendum every five years. This has been instrumental in developing our
schools into the top-notch schools they are today. E-SPLOST funds have facilitated structural growth and
support, technology upgrades and system-wide maintenance of facilities and resources. We are the 7th
largest school district in the state and we see further growth in our future. Numerous schools have been
added as a result of the E-SPLOST. As the 2007-2012 E-SPLOST comes to an end, Henry County voters
approved the continuation of the E-SPLOST in November of 2011. The new E-SPLOST IV will start in 2012
and run through 2017. Thank you Henry County School community members!
