You don’t have to be 5' 9" or taller to model - this is only if you want to be a runway model, but we are focusing on what really pays and that is print commercial modeling (magazines, billboards, advertising, etc) and for that their is no height recommendation.

The wrong thing to do is make a portfolio of pictures with you all "dolled" up with make-up and clothing (if any).

What you want to do is send in NATURAL photos that show your real beauty, WHY? anyone can look good in make-up and with the right photographer and Photoshop.

Also your true personality is what needs to shine not the photo, so ensure that you have an edgy look that makes you unique and would stop anyone in their tracks just to stop and look at you.

A good website to create a FREE Portfolio is http://www.urbaniq.net

WHY?

The site allows you to have more than just photos, videos and music in your portfolio, you can also add your blog, YouTube, twitter and more, all in the effort to show that you have a edgy personality and that you would stand out from the crowd.

Also http://www.urbaniq.net has a resume creator so agencies can learn about you more and see your background.

The wrong thing to do is just submit your portfolio to all agencies and just hope that they give you a call. This is the wrong approach as a future high fashion model, what you want to do is create relationships with done of the agencies within your area (here is a directory of agencies models.com/agencies/Modeling) and from their you can get the emails of the modeling agencies that you like.

Once you have these emails simply login into your http://www.urbaniq.net portfolio and click the Traffic Center bar and input the emails into the "Invite friends" box and write a small introduction to the agency telling them that this is your digital portfolio and will show that you are a model that they would love to sign.

Big Mistake: To not have something unique to offer. You will surely be asked the question Who are You? What are you about? Most people will be stumped by these questions and give really stupid answers that will have the interviewer giving them that "get out my office" look.

You have to be proactive and see exactly what type of modeling you want to do and then start branding yourself in that fashion.

How: 1) Look at other print models :- the next time you look at a magazine notice that their is high-end couture fashion (Vogue, GUCCI, Chado Ralph Rucci, Prada) and then retail modeling (hair, lotions, lip balms..etc).This will allow you to see what attributes these models have that you are missing, also it allows you to be clearer as to what magazines, newspapers, commercials you want to model for.

Imagine a high fashion model like Chanel Iman on an ad for your a tooth paste commercial, it would have wondering right? However, what you should know is that toothpaste model will have been paid a good penny.

It is just a matter of understanding where you would best fit, not everyone can do high fashion, however high fashion is not all there is to commercial modeling.

So now the next time your asked who are you? your response should be something like

"I am a high fashion model that caters to brands within the high end luxury industry. I help these companies communicate the quality, innovation and trendsetting value of their products"

Saying things like this will show to your modeling agency that you understand your job and that your are there to help them make money and not just to take pretty pictures of yourself to look at.
