and thank you very much for your interest inour range of tools. This new catalogue issueshows our updated range of standard andspecial tools for the years 2008 and 2009.

Again, we are very pleased by the develop-ment of the vhf tool sector during the validity

period of the last catalogue. For instance, thesales volume of our popular universal singletooth cutter Varius has increased by morethan 40% from 2005 to 2006.

In order to fully meet the increased demand,we have increased our workforce and in-vested considerably in our machinery. Atthe same time, we took this opportunity fora spin-off of an independent company, vhftools GmbH, as a pure production site for vhftools. Thus the vhf group has grown to fourmembers in the meantime. Due to its extraordinary features, toolsmade of carbide are far superior to thosemade of high speed steel (HSS). For highspeed cutting, HSS tools can no longer beused. Thats why all tools in this cata-logue are carbide tools either com-pletely or partly. Most of our tools are solidcarbide tools, the diamond tools consist ofa carbide shank with an attached diamondand the router bits have carbide cuttingedges.

Carbide is an artificial product and con-sists mainly of the hard materials tungsten

carbide and other finest grind powders.This mixture will be sintered under extremepressure and high temperatures until itbecomes a solid object. Therefore carbidecannot be compared to ferrous materialslike steel. However, due to its extremehardness and finest graining which en-sure a long endurance and clear edgesof cut, it is also more brittle and fragilethan steel.

Diamond!Diamond is even much harder than car-bide. Carbide tools with diamond attach-ment enable you to process even hardermaterials and have a multiple of theendurance of carbide tools.

We use two sorts of diamonds mono-

crystalline and polycrystalline diamonds.Our monocrystalline diamonds cor-respond in their structure to natural dia-monds although they have been producedartificially. They are excellent for polishingacrylic to a high gloss. Polycrystallinediamonds will be sintered from numer-ous unit crystals at high temperatures andpressures to a solid plate. This productionprocess is comparable to that of carbide.Using these tools you can work on materi-als of all hardness grades.

Despite their higher cost price, diamondtools are the more economic alterna-tive for many processing tasks last butnot least due to the possibility that theycan be regrind forseveral times.

GraversDescription:Gravers are conic tools (halved carbide rod) with one

cutting edge. The deeper you dip into your workpiece,the broader becomes the engraving. The relationship be-tween dipping depth and engraving width is determinedby the top angle of the tool. A smaller top angle enables amore constant engraving width, even if the surface is notabsolutely plane. We recommend our special 15 grav-ers for spindles without workpiece levelling. Onrequest, we can also produce special designs. Insteadof the shown conical flattened gravers, there are also cy-lindrical rounded gravers available. Additionally, we offera regrinding service at a price of 6. per tool.

Box GraversDescription:

These special gravers with a top angle of 92 are very well

suitable forbevelling. The material will be cut throughnearly completely and bent up then. The oversize of 2equals tolerances and offers space for glue. The name ofthe tool box graver results from this application: itcan be used for producing boxes, or more generally,forcabinet making. We would be glad to manufactureon request also other special designs of gravers. For cal-culating the maximum material thickness which you canprocess with this tool, just subtract the engraving width(tip diameter of the graver) from the half cutting edgediameter.

Description:Our universal single tooth cutter Varius is also availablewith a left-hand twisted flute. So the chips wont betransported to the top but be pressed downwards intothe milled slot, although the tool is right-cutting like allvhf tools. An advantage of the left-hand twist is that theworkpiece will be pressed downwards, too.

FieldsofApplication:Especially when workpieces have to be milled on a vac-uum table with low holding force, the danger thatthe workpiece may loosen accidentally due to the cork-screw effect will be reduced considerably. The left-handtwist also shows advantages when working on thin ma-

terials or such which tend to frayeasily. However, theremoval rate is reduced a little bit. This tool is good formilling aluminium, copper, zinc, brass, acrylic, plastics...

Diamond Polishing CuttersDescription:

The monocrystalline diamond (MCD) which is at-

tached to a carbide shank consists of pure carbon andis extremely resistant to wear. Although it has been pro-duced synthetically, it has the same characteristics as anatural diamond. This ultra-hard material ensures glassypolishing edges. It is centre-cutting and cuts sidewardsas well as downwards.

FieldsofApplication:This tool is used forpolishing acrylic edges and pock-ets of any contour. A cutting edge or pocket that hasbeen milled is a sufficient preparation. So all kinds ofpolished acrylic letters or logos can be produced quiteeasily.

Polishes your acrylic edges and pockets to a high gloss

You can polish your workpieces in several steps if a finepolishing step does not bother you. For instance you

can polish your 10 mm thick material with a cuttingedge length of 4 mm in three steps. So you do not haveto use a polishing cutter with a cutting edge length of10 mm which is much more expensive.

To achieve best polishing results, do not remove morethan 0.05 mm of the material per working cycle.
