and the Who see end cover...

The Why What How and Who

The WhyIt is the shame of our times that the

rhymes and verse most quoted, recitedand trawled up again and again are onthe most part hundreds of years old. Myinterest is trying to put a more moderngroup of verse into the public domain. Bynow children should be skipping to rhymesother than sixteenth century accounts ofthe black death.

The WhatTowards this end I have

created a series of verse thatshould appeal to the young of allages. Some word rhymes, syllablegames, others have deeper levelsof meaning. The verse scan andare easily learned for fun andgames.

The HowThis is part of a series of poetry books is arranged in

groups of difficulty ranging from 1 to 5. The easiest is group1, the hardest group 5. It is not just that group 1's are shorter, they are the easiest to read, be spoken or remembered. Theygradually rise to group 5 which have slightly older concepts. There is no bad language or offensive words anywhere inthese poems.1 - short easy rhyming 2 - medium easy rhyming3 - medium long rhyming 4 - medium complex5 - bugger concepts

Windy Day

This galloping jumping blustery day Whistling tumbling running away,Stopping for no one ready to pass Blowing the trees and bending the grass,Over the meadows, around all the trees, There's no where it's blowing not very fast,Sparrows they bumble and tumble around Circles they make just like an old clown,Upwards and sideways, backwards and all Where ever you go its been there before,Leaves from the trees are blowing around They're up to your knees all over the ground,It's nice to wander and scatter away This thunderous wondrous windy day.

Labradors.

Labradors adore the fuss They get from silly folkLike us, We take them walksWe feed them too, We wash themIn the bath we do, And all they doFor all the fuss, Is get their shaggyHair on us, They bark at nightAnd mess the house, They dig the lawnAnd chew the chairs, Do we careWe stroke their chin, LabradorsThey always win, And really doAdore the fuss, They get from silly folkLike us.

Barr

Sheep go arr but moistly barr But sometimes they do cough,I've never heard a sheep to laugh And even less to giggle,I suppose its prose By those who knowsThat make them all so sad, I’d be sad and rather madTo hear a wheeze about the fleece, Which took a year to grow,So that's just why sheep don't laugh Bur simply all go barr,So when you write some woolly prose Although it be quite funny,Tell it to a kangaroo Or even wilderbeast,But never never to a sheep.

Tony J MoonCheering an Elephant

You will gather When an elephant,Begins to sneeze Deliberately,He's wanting someone's Sympathy,Because he's feeling Sad,So talk to him Quite tenderly,And say to him You quite agree,If he mentions things Important,That seem so At the time, >2

Page 9

>2Offer him A cup of tea,A peace of bread Or cake,And if he starts To wander off,Insist that he should Stay,So if you see An elephantWho's looking rather sad, Perhaps this littleRemedy, Will cheer him upA spell.

Aartomous Twig Kept a hairy old pig,The two were never apart, He took it on walksAnd trips to the sea, And fed it on best brandy butter,He taught it to beg For bits of old bread,And jump through a hoop for its supper, He got quite well knownAnd put on a show, For vicar in local church hall, >2

Page 10

>2

But tragedy struck When the pig took a butt,And pushed the town mayor in a hole, A councillor saidThe pig must be shot, So the pig was arrested that night,The following dawn Out on the lawn,The sentence was due to be given, When Aartomous TwigLeapt out of a gig, And effectively rescued his friend,He's now on the run And living in France,It is said that He's teaching,The pig how to dance.

The London Train.

Tired eyes, concealed sighs, Aching bones, tired feet,Shops closing, darkness falling, Another day a funny game,

We'd all got macks and hats on, All were soaking wet,Each looked quite unhappy, We'd all seen better days,

Busses trundle, rumble bumble, Running over ginger cats,Number sevens going nowhere, Just the place for rainy days,

Mrs Wendle gets her flask out, Pours a cup of steaming soup,On the platform every Friday, Waiting for the London train.

Where a cat.

I saw this cat A fleeting glance,Clouds they parted A moon beam shone,The cat stood still Shadow cast,A moment lost A sudden chill,The cat he turned To walk away,One brief glance He looked my way,Eyes that burned Narrow green,Quiet night A sight unseen,Shadows drew in Behind the cat,No sound was heard To break the spell,An Emptiness A cold night breeze,And a place, Where a catHad been.

Little kitten

Little kitten with a mitten, Stalked around the marigold,Like a tiger in the jungle, Eyes alight, limbs a tremble,Stalks his pray with great intent, One small pounce he grabs his prise,But then leaf it blew away,

Creeping slowly round cabbages, Looking for a place to hide,Gets a fright quite suddenly, Face to face with a cauliflower,Runner beans reach to the sky, Thought he had better,Just tiptoe by,

A butterfly, Went fluttering past,Kitty was dazzled, With the glittering colours,He jumped to catch it, Then jumped even higher,He fell in the pond,With a splash and a scream, The butterfly just,Flew higher.

The Who

If you have reached this far youmight be wanting to know somethingabout the writer. The trouble is I do notreally want everybody to know all aboutme, it has taken me years to give peoplethe impression that I am normal. I amnot going to destroy all that by telling allhere.

Only on dark moonless nights dopick up the golden quill of Shakespeareand try to make the world a better prosefor good words to live in.

Tony on the Moon’s Fun Poetry - Level 3 - Book 1 - 2014

Out in the dark When dogs do not bark,Cats sing strange songs Like an old violin playing,And Tony is writing new poems, But he’s stuck for a wordTo rhyme with Aberystwyth, And the wind is beginning to moan.
