EFF election campaign stage burnt to ashesCharity [email protected]

Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) two tents, erected on Friday night at Sam Ntuli stadium in Thokoza, with 100 plastic chairs, four sound speakers, and a table, in preparation to host an election rally was set alight in the early hours of Saturday morning.Gardee Godrich, EFF Commissar for Elections said the incident happened around 3:30 to 4:00 am on Saturday. He said there were 50 members of EFF looking after the tent while singing and it happened that they took five minutes’ walk to the stadium entrance gate and when they came back everything was burning. “We suspect that the perpetrator was laying in ambush, patiently waiting for my members to lose sight. The suspect might have used a gorilla warfare tactic and he is highly trained. We suspect that African National Congress (ANC) is behind the incident. We received threats that the ANC is plotting to disrupt our rally and we also informed the police about the threat,” said Godrich. According to the press statement issued by EFF they condemn the torching of its marques, stage

and sound system, allegedly by ANC members. It states that EFF will however continue to do everything in its power to protect its events, its members, and its right to exist. They call on the Independent Electoral Commission to act with speed and decisively against the ANC. EFF further called on all their members to stand their ground and continue campaigning for the agenda of the economic emancipation movement. Responding to the matter, Thandi Mahlangu, Deputy Secretary of ANC in Ekurhuleni region said, “The ANC does not know anything about the allegations and no threats were made against the EFF.”Captain Piet Rossouw, Communications Officer of Vosloorus police station and duty officer confirmed that the incident happened. “A case of malicious damage to property has been opened by EFF and registered at Thokoza Police Station. There are no arrests that have been made and no injuries reported. There is still no evidence of what caused the fire and the forensic team is still investigating. The rally continued without any incident of violence reported. We appeal to the public with information regarding the incident, to report to the police,” said Rossouw. tame TIMES celebrated their fifth birthday on 1 April at the company premises at Randhart in Alberton. The newspaper’s clients, readers, stakeholders and the community converged at the building to celebrate this milestone. As part of ploughing back into the community, Karin Blignaut, Chief Operation Officer of tame TIMES, announced the company’s community project. “For the next five months tame TIMES will be paying for five children’s school fees that are from five operational areas. These lucky children share their birthday with tame TIMES. The selected children are doing grade five and each child received a Waltons back to school hamper, a goodie bag, a certificate and a recycled Desk Bag,” said Blignaut. The beneficiaries of the community project are, Sihle Malamule from Intokozo Primary School in Katlehong, Samuel Motombo from Khayelihle Primary School in Vosloorus, Atlile Otsheleng from Van Dyk Park Primary

School in Boksburg and Alexander Wright from Kenton Primary School in Alberton. A child is currently being seeked from JHB South and tame TIMES will announce his/her name and school as soon as we find one.“We decided to give back to the community by investing in the education of five children by supplying them with learning materials as well as sponsoring them with school fees for five months. Bonga Mthembu has the ability to keep radio listeners glued to their favourite Kasi FM channel while informing, educating and entertaining the listeners with great local music. His reputation as one of the finest presenters in Ekurhuleni earned him a nickname “The Chosen One”. Mthebu said he does not have any academic background in broadcasting, but learned his craft through working experience in Kasi FM. “I joined Kasi FM in 2000 after matriculating and never looked back. Between 2000 -2003, I was working as a newsreader for the same radio station and I was later mandated to be a head of news. Then I was given a 3am-6am slot called Kuyavukwa (wakeup). As if that was not enough, I was shifted to 9pm – 12 pm hosting a popular show called “The late Night Af-fair”. I have also hosted the 9am- 12 midday show called Browsing Around”, said Mthembu. Currently, he is hosting “Kasi to Kasi show” starting from 12am -3midday. Listeners are passionate about his show because he tack-les social problems and community development topics. His choice of music is appealing across all ages. “I have been chosen two times in succession as finalists of Ekurhuleni Community Awards. Last year I was for the first time chosen as the best radio personality in Ekurhu-leni Community Awards which is a greatest honour in the City of Ekurhuleni. My role models are Cyril Bongani “Kansas City” Mchunu and Fana “Khabzela” Khaba,” said Mthembu. He is currently married with two kids living in Mavimbela Section at Katlehong. His dream is to move to greener pastures when the time is ripe but eager to learn from his predecessors in broadcasting industry.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS), Mobile Tax Unity, will be in Thokoza at Greenaker centre next to (Shopriteusave) on 11 April to bring their services closer to the community. SARS representatives will be servicing the com-munity from 10:00 am to 15:00 pm. The services to be rendered are inquiries and information regard-ing the taxes; submission of all tax returns, income tax, company tax, vat and any matters concern-ing tax. It can be tax for previous and outstanding years. The community are supposed to bring their identity document and documents related to tax. Morgan Ntombela, team member of the campaign at SARS Alberton branch said: “We are bringing the information centre to the community and SARS representatives will be available to assist. There are some people that are not working and owning small business’, some of which are not in opera-tion but they need to submit their tax returns. We will be providing the community with all the neces-sary information they need to know about SARS.”

The inaugural tame TIMES Kathorus Cook Out 2014 event was held at Chris Hani Crossing mall in Vosloorus on Saturday 29 March.Congratulations to Cynthia Khumalo from Phumula for winning first place in the competition. The second position was won by Nomathemba Totsetsi, from Vosloorus and the third position was scooped by Lungile Matlala from Vosloorus extension 7. The top three winners were awarded tame Times food hampers, a cooking course from Ubuntu Creative School of Cooking, and a hamper from Chris Hani Crossing mall. The five runner up contestants were also awarded tame TIMES food hampers.

Kathorus Rollerblades Club members collected 14 medals at the South African Opening Inline Speed Championship held at Mandela Village in Pretoria recently. According to Kathorus Rollerblades Club chairperson, Itumeleng Pitso, their skaters were competing in the 200 and 300 meters Time Trial race. “We competed in the under 13, 15, 17 and over 17 divisions for both male and female categories. Out of 17 members we had on board, we managed to collect 8 gold, 3 bronze and 3 silver medals. “It was not by surprise that two of our teammates Kutlwano Mogotsi (17) and Katiso Mokoena’s (16) names were

shortlisted for the trails in team South Africa. They both competed in the junior category for the national championship. We are confident that they will make it to final team list of team South Africa because of the magnificent support we are giving them. Trails will commence from July at Mandela Village in Pretoria,” said Pitso. The top three performing skaters in each category of team South Africa will automatically qualify to represent the country in the International World Speed Championship to be held in Argentina in November.
