Dear Parents and Friends, The weather certainly keeps us on our toes here in the Dandenongs. We have such beautiful summery days then we are plunged into the depths of winter again with pea soup fog and misty rains! Whatever the weather it is important to note that Term 4 and Term 1 next year are ‘Sun Smart’ terms and children are required to wear their school hats when playing outside.

Welcome Back! I would like to extend a big welcome back to Adam, Mason and Tarrant who have just returned from their adventures exploring the northern coasts and inland areas of Australia. What a fabulous trip you have had. We have all enjoyed hearing about all your experiences. I would also like to thank Melody for stepping into Adam’s grade, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and also to Kristy for taking over the Performing Arts program.

CURRICULUM DAY A reminder that we will be having a whole school Curriculum Day on Tuesday 20th November. All the staff will be meeting collectively to focus on analysing our data, evaluating our teaching and learning programs and our teaching practices, as a pre-requisite to completing the Pre Review School Evaluation process that is taking place this term, prior to our School Review next term. TWILIGHT FESTIVAL It is almost upon us…our school Twilight Festival is fast approaching, so please mark Friday 30th November, 3pm – Dusk in your diaries. There will be lots of stalls all requiring your help and support. If you are able to help with the organisation or with the stalls on the evening, please see your class teacher or class parent representative. Many hands make light work and all your support is appreciated.

MINI WORKING BEE In preparation for the Twilight Festival, we are planning a Mini Working-Bee for the Sunday 25th November, 9am-12MD. If you are able to spare an hour or two to help, we would very much appreciate your support. Again, many hands make light work!

VOTING DAY BBQ As we are a voting centre for the elections on Saturday 24th November, we are planning to make the most of the fundraising opportunity to have a Fundraising sausage sizzle BBQ. If you are able to help on the day by either cooking or serving, your support would be appreciated. Please see either Bec Cranmer (Fundraising) or myself.

I smell Christmas in the air! Only 40 more sleeps!

Have a good week, Anni Smart PRINCIPAL

Choir Performances Dear Parents,

The Choir has been very busy rehearsing and are sounding terrific. Due to the three upcoming performances, the choir is now rehearsing every Tuesday afternoon after lunch. The details of the three performances are listed below.

1) The Choir is performing at the school festival on Friday the 30th November from 5pm – 5.30.

2) The second performance is at the school Christmas concert on the 12th of December. Students can wear anything Christmas related to this event.

3) The third event is the Community Carols on the Mountain at Ferny Creek Reserve on Saturday the 15th of December. Our choir usually performs there at around 8pm. Choir students are to wear school uniform and will need to meet me near the main stage at 7.30.

If your child is unable to make it to any of these performances could you please let me know ASAP via email [email protected] or send a note in with your child.

Thank you, Melody

Dear Ferny Creek PS After The Bell Families,

It is with great regret that we have to inform

you that the After The Bell Pupil Free Day on

Tuesday 20/11 will not go ahead, as we

have unfortunately not reached the

necessary level of interest to run this day.

The After The Bell Program will therefore not

be operating.

We do hope, however, to be able to offer

this service to you in the future.

Thank you.

Pre-Loved

Book Sale Thank you to everyone who has donated books so far. We have an extensive collection for the Twilight Festival, so be prepared to stock up on your summer reading. Whilst all donations are welcome and appreciated, we are still hoping to expand on the following categories;

Kids Chapter Books (particularly series) Young Adult Fiction Comic Books & Graphic Novels Classics Science & Astronomy Books DIY & Special Interest Books

All book donations can be left in the tubs outside the office or alternatively I can arrange pick-up if that’s more convenient. We are also looking for sturdy boxes and/or crates to transport and display the books so if you have any that you would be willing to donate or loan, please call Julia Dixon 0419 255 229 or drop off at school office. If you are willing to help out on the book stall, please add your name to the roster that went home this week or let the office know as we will also require helpers from about 12pm on the 30th to move books over to multi-purpose room.

We are sending home a book of raffle tickets this week. These are for the opportunity to win one of our fantastic coloured grade hampers.

Raffle tickets are due back at school on or before Thursday November 29th and will be drawn at the Festival.

Thank you and good luck…

(Extra tickets available at the Office if you’re feeling lucky!)

Eddie M: For trying hard to improve his reading and writing by paying close attention to the letters and sounds. Fantastic, Eddie! Sophie P: For making excellent progress with her spelling and writing. Keep it up Sophie! Evie O: for going over and above in all our Specialist areas (Veggie Patch, PE and Science). Lachlan J: For showing initiative in our classroom, often helping out with various jobs without having to be asked. Thanks Lachlan! Jack G: For his excellent behaviour at swimming. You should be very proud of yourself. Alex T: For the wonderful work you have been doing in book clubs and your positive contribution during group discussions. Keep up the great work!!! Olivia J: For the wonderful way you embraced our discussion on feminism. You have used our rich discussion to develop ways to empower yourself in our ever changing world. Well done! Buildings and Grounds Update Hi all, with a combination of warm sun, small amount of rain and a school with no mower our grass is nearly as tall as me not hard (I heard that). This Sunday 18/11 we have our services crew coming to do there general whipper snip, hand mow clean up etc. We have also hired a large ride on mower to do the back paddock and larger areas for Sunday as well which I will be on with L plates. With the Festival coming soon we are having a mini WORKING BEE on Sunday 25/11 to give the school a once over and would appreciate any volunteers to come along for a few hours on the day between 9.30am until 2.00pm. If you are available please make your self known to one of the B&G committee members. Dean C, Meagan C, Miranda S, Graham L, Doug and Anni.

Regards Steve O.
