The great Indian freedom fighter and Founder of the Indian National Army- INA All the three works mentioned above are in the medium called ‘black pencil

powder stump work’, a medium involving a lot of hard work and extra ordinary skill. They were executed during the period 1952-68 by the students of the Venus Arts Institute ,but polished up by their beloved teacher and my father the late R.R.Krishnan who was a versatile painter and founder of the institute, which enjoyed immense popularity in the southern parts of Kerala and the northern regions of TamilNadu. All these works bear the imprint of his genius.

The students, in turn, donated these works to their teacher so that the sale proceeds of these works could be utilized for the development of the Venus Arts Institute, the only one of its kind in the area in those days.

We have decided to offer these works for sale with the humble aim of purchasing a piece of land and constructing a building there on to house the school and offer various new courses in painting which has always been the long cherished dream of our family and the student community.

? HOW these works were executed.

These works were done on high quality paper imported from Germany and through a process which is at once laborious and time- consuming.

A short profile || Venus arts institute - Venus - School of Arts Venus Arts institute was founded way back in 1951, at a small village called Parassala which lies south

of Trivandrum District in the state of Kerala by the late R.R .Krishnan who was an artist and painter

par excellence and philanthrope in his right .

Most of the students of this school were from poor families and in straited circumstances, so my

father {the late R.R.Krishnan} himself had to help them by coaching them free of cost and even

spending money from his own pocket to remit their examination fees there by incurring great

financial liabilities. At last he had to sell the land on which the school stood to clear the debts and

moved to a rented building nearby.

In 1988, due to infirmities of old age and financial problems .Mr.R.R.Krishnan entrusted the affairs of

the school to R.Raja, his son who was a budding artist then. I am proud to say that more than

20,000 students have passed out of this alma mater during the period 1951 and 2010.What is more

important is that most of them got jobs in schools as drawing masters or distinguished themselves as

renowned artists and painters.

Students from distant places like Maldives and Lakshadweep flocked to this school. We did not realize

any tuition fees from financially backward students, with the small income we got from the students

by way of tuition fees, we found it increasingly difficult to run the school. Monthly rent, salary to

teachers and miscellaneous expenses were too high for us to manage. Besides, physically challenged

students were exempted from paying tuition fee.

In our sincere efforts to get sponsors, so that we could revive the school by giving expert training to

our students in animation and graphics, we even affiliated our school to NGO’ like TEACH

International, MICSSANA, both of them were in Greenland in America, but unfortunately we could

not make any head way for want of funds.

But we went ahead with the humanitarian activities like conducting awareness programs against

HIV/AIDS, by displaying wall-posters, conducting quiz programs and painting competitions. These

and other activities caused great financial strain on us. But we pulled on because we had the support

of the masses and the encouragement and adulations from the UN, UNAIDS, International HIV/AIDS

Alliance-UK .

WHY the sale of these works ? Though 59 years have passed since the school was started, it is indeed regrettable that it has

not even a small piece of land or a building of its own to house the school. The school is not

functioning now. There is ample scope for multimedia courses in our state which is

known for its highest literacy rate and joblessness among the young. Because of these

reasons we are forced to sell these three works of art. We hope to use the sale proceeds to buy a tiny

piece of land and construct a small building there on, the earlier the better so that we can reopen the

school.

ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SPONSORS.

Paintings, portraits, landscapes, drawings, mural paintings ,etc are our main source of support and they can adorn home and offices alike .We undertake to do oil portraits with a hundred years guarantee .These works will be sent to the interested parties by courier service. We are sending our prospectus along with this. We are glad to inform that our compaign against Global Warming and its impact is due to start soon. With regards, sincerely,
