When the Freeman Cattle Company herd was dispersed, Scott told me there was a good bull calf that he thought could be bought well worth the money. So, we teamed up and bought a youngbull calf that had all the right pieces but needed a little time to develop. It was felt that he was too far behind his competition to catch up enough to make a show bull, so we turned him out with some heifers. As the spring and summer went on, he was shuffled

from Jordan Acres to Circle H and Turner Shorthorns and saw extensive service as a yearling bull. Without a lot of rest and feed, he began his second year of service and his first calves began tohit the ground. We had absolutely no problems calving his calves, even out of heifers. They were the right size and shape and hit the ground with a lot of vigor. The first calf to sell by Hot Commodity caused quite a stir at the 2011, Illinois Beef Expo, where Commotion was the record top selling Shorthorn bull. After that, Cates Farms negotiated a lease

to use Hot Commodity naturally for a few months. In 2012, some of his offspring will highlight their production sale and watch for a few bull calves in their spring, March Madness Online Sale. Also, in 2012, Shadybrook Farms purchased the Canadian semen rights on Hot Commodity. His service will be offered in their September Production Sale. These are only a few of the reputableand progressive Shorthorn Breeders that have invested in their future by using the service of Hot Commodity. As I have said before, a few years down the road, we will look back at Hot Commodity as one of, if not the, most influential bull ever used at Jordan Acres, and possibly the breed. If you don't

like to dehorn or trim feet, Hot Commodity is the bull to use. He is homozygous polled and to date, we have not trimmed the feet on him, or any of his offspring, not once. On September 1, 2012, semen will be priced at $40 per unit and certificates at $25. I would highly recommend everyone to at least try the service of Hot Commodity on at least a portion of their herd. You won't regret it.
