to learn more about the world you created

Science Prayer
Lord, may I feel great as I examine the world you created. May I find joy as I discover that creation reveals your eternal power and divine nature. Help me to understand the physical laws and grasp scientific concepts. Give me excitement to learn more about the world you created.
If I pace a teaching that opposes You and Your world, let me dig in and study, let me find that science and faith do not oppose but rather converge. May my confidence in the truth of the Bible and faith in Jesus be strengthened daily. AMEN
Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for us
Objectives:
- Describe the reasons for habitat destruction.- List the undesirable effects of deforestation as an example of habitat destruction.- Know the disadvantages of habitat destruction.
Have you eaten? Did you turn on an electric light, or use a computer today?
When you do any of these activities, you use one or more natural resources. Natural resources are materials in the environment that people use to carry on with their lives.
But are you using these natural resources wisely?
Will the time come when these materials will no longer be available to
you?
Habitat destruction is one of the biggest threats facing plants and animal species throughout the world. The loss of habitat has far-reaching impacts on the planet’s ability to sustain life, but even with the challenges, there is hope for the future.
Habitat destruct ion, def ined as the elimination or alteration of the conditions necessary for animals and plants to survive, not only impacts individual species but the h e a l t h o f t h e g l o b a l e c o s y s t e m .
- S o m e o f t h e l o c a l a n d g l o b a l environmental issues/problems that are also affecting your community.
- Deforestation
One of the country’s environmental problems is the rapid rate at which trees are cut down. In the Philippines, the major causes of deforestation are:
- Kaingin farming- Illegal logging- Conversion of agricultural lands to housing projects- Forest fires- Typhoons
As a consequence of cutting down trees, the following effects could take place:- Soil erosion- Floods- Decrease in wildlife resources that will eventually lead to extinction
Wildlife Depletion
As human population gets bigger, huge space is needed for shelter, for growing crops, and for industries.
Water Pollution
A major problem in lakes, rivers and ponds is eutrophication. It happens when the concentration of organic nutrients that comes from domestic garbage and thrown in bodies of water, increases rapidly. one of the effects of water pollution.
Air Pollution
Do you know that cars are one of the major contributors to air pollution?
Pollutants can enter the air as gases, liquids, or solids. Cars burn fuel and produce harmful gases–carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons.
Destruction of Coastal Resources
Coral reefs and coastal mangrove forests in the Philippines serve as breeding grounds and nurseries of marine fishes. But due to man’s activities, coastal areas are getting destroyed through the years.
Some of these activities include the following:
- Deforestation, agricultural activities, and mining activities- Dynamite fishing and muro-ami- Coastal areas’ conversion to beach resorts, residential areas- Overharvesting
