Library Settlement Partnerships – It’s Working!
Les partenariats d’établissement de la
bibliothèque – ça marche!
“I need to learn English, both for me and my children. I could come to the ESL class every day!
I go to the Greenboro class on Monday, and the Alta Vista class on Tuesday. Now I’m looking for a third day of ESL conversation!”
“I have been coming to this class since July 2009 when I came to Canada.
I didn’t know how to meet friends, but I found a way by coming to this class.
This class is not about studying English for me. It’s about people and friends.
Now I have friends and memories.”
“I’ve been coming to this class since April.
I studied English in my country but need to improve my English conversation.
The class time is also good for me – I can come when my son is in school.
Our classes are very practical and useful. We usually talk about Canadian life and food.
I know a lot about Canada through this class and have improved my English speaking as well!”
The Wisdom of the Library
“ When I am in the Library, I feel like I am in an ocean of Knowledge.
The first time I stood in the library, I felt the years of wisdom in the rows of books.
The words from the books flow through my mind like waves.
The whispering voices are a chorus of understanding.
The library’s door is open to everyone and does not discriminate.
Come into the library with an open mind, leave full of knowledge and the wisdom to succeed. ’’
“I came to Canada in December 2008. At that time I didn’t know any English.
I started coming to the Library Homework Club and it has helped me with my communication skills.
I bring homework to the club and if I don’t understand something, the tutors help explain.
Last year, I was in an ELD class but this year I am in a regular English class. The Homework Club helped me to achieve this.
I recommend this club to my classmates and now many of them are coming too!”

The Settlement Song
From Far East, we came to this beautiful land.Red flowers, green grass, blue sky and white cloud,Yet it remains a strange land to us.Customs are different and languages are difficult.Friends are few, we feel uninspired!Who helps us understand Canada?Who builds a bridge for us between different cultures?Who teaches us how to adapt to the new life in Canada?LSP!Canada is a country of diversity in which all people can live in harmony. In Canada, vulnerable ones get assistance, seniors are caredfor,And there is respect for all! With the help from LSP,We made new friends and built up our confidence! With the help of LSP,We formed a community social club for Chinese seniors. We named it “The Cute Sunset”.Our new home in Canada!
