They play a key role in helping you achieve a salon-perfect look.

This article explains all the different uses for all the various makeup brushes, so you know what to buy and when to use it! 1. Blush Brush The blush brush is one of the most important brushes in your makeup arsenal. A well made brush will help you achieve a more natural glow by giving you better control as you highlight the contours of your bone structure. 2. Powder Brush

The powder brush that you choose should have a slightly rounded, medium size head. This allows you to better control your powder application, and only apply it to the places you need it like the forehead, chin and nose. Before you buy a powder brush, test it by running the bristles across the back of your hand. It should feel feathery at the tips, and the bristles should be clasped tightly in the base; none of the bristles should shed.

3. Foundation Brush The best foundation brushes are a blend of natural with synthetic bristles. It helps you achieve a more natural look. The natural hairs lift up the pigment powder while the synthetic bristles keep the brush from absorbing too much of your foundation and getting gloppy or clumpy. You'll save money over the long run by using less makeup. The head should be flat with a contour tip to allow easy blending of your makeup, especially into tight places like around your nose and eyes. 4. Concealer Brush

The concealer brush that you choose should have a small head with stiff bristles that allow you to dab make up exactly onto the spots you need. The best choice here is synthetic bristles, because they don't absorb make up and allow for more precise application. The brush should be flat with very closely packed bristles.

5. Shadow Brush The eye shadow brush needs to be very soft and silky. You don't want a brush that is too stiff and bristly. You should have two shadow brushes; one with a flat head for covering your eyelid and one with an angled head for applying shadow to the crease. 6. Brow Blush

The typical little plastic brow brush comes complete with a lash comb on the other side, and these work great for smoothing the brow and separating blobs of mascara. However, most professionals are now using a spooley brush, which looks similar to a mascara applicator.

It's very good for grooming the brows and can also get rid of those mascara clumps. 7. Kabuki Brush Kabuki brushes resemble powder brushes, except it is squat and the bristles are very densely packed. This lets get greater coverage in the areas where you need it. Use your kabuki brush over foundation and bronzer to get a softer finish. You can also use it to apply shimmering makeup over the cheekbones.

8. Lipbrush

The lipbrush is used to apply lip color with more control. It's easier to create smoother edges, and also easier to manage the intensity of the color with a more sheer application. Stick with synthetic bristles that are firm but still bend. It allows you to smooth your lip color on without being streaky or leaving gloppy.

9. Eyeliner Brush The eyeliner brush is a versatile tool. You can use it to blend pencil liner into the lashes for a more dramatic look. You can also use it damp to line your eyes with powder eyeshadow for a much softer look than when you use a regular eyeliner. In a pinch, you can use the eyeliner brush for applying shadow into the crease with more precision. Look for a brush with synthetic bristle to keep those lines precise. It should be very firm and the tip should be cut to a squared angle.
