Tim’s CornerSome Good Advice:
Wag More!Paul Harvey was an American
treasure. He had an incrediblevoice, an impeccable sense oftiming and best-in-class delivery.Who can forget his ‘BumperSnickers’? For example:
• My Karma ran over yourdogma
• Women who seek to be equalto men lack ambition
• This is not an abandonedvehicle
• Don’t steal. Congress hatesthe competition
As all of us know, our world issadly (and in my opinion, unnecessarily) polarized anddivided. Given this situation, I’mconstantly looking for humor, wisdom, solitude and sanity. When the talk is filled with toomuch vitriol, I find musicsoothing. I also enjoy acombination of wisdom andhumor. While driving homerecently, I saw a bumper stickerthat I’m sure Paul Harvey wouldhave trumpeted. It wasparticularly salient and read, “WagMore, Bark Less.” This is obviouslyfrom a dog lover, but in only fourwords it speaks volumes about a“wise” way to live. Would not ourworld be a better place if we all
wagged a little more and barked alittle less?
How do we do that? I amconvinced that having an attitudeof gratitude makes all thedifference! Did you see the articlelast week about Lauretta Taggert, the Exercise Instructor inMinnesota? It would not benewsworthy, except for the factthat she just celebrated her 100thbirthday and is still leadingexercises, as she’s done for thepast 15 years. When asked abouther “longevity secret,” she quicklyreplied, “Honey, the key is to havea positive attitude (and I don’t letmy hair go gray)!” A positiveattitude combined with a sense ofhumor...Don’t you agree that thisis good advice?
Our mission and joy is to assistyou. Please read over thewonderful offerings for February.Plug in, become involved. Ifthere’s something new you’d likeus to offer, just say the word. Weare here to serve and our drive isto keep Belmont Village abest-ever, wag-more and positiveplace to call home.
Have a safe and healthyFebruary!

dark chocolate this Valentine’sDay. Among its antioxidantproperties and heart healthbenefits, chocolate with at least 70percent cocoa content canimprove blood flow to the brainand boost cognitive function.

BrainteaserQuestion: A man is standing
on one side of a river; his dog ison the other side. The man callsthe dog, which quickly crossesthe river without getting wet andwithout using a bridge or a boat. How did the dog do it?
Answer: The river is frozen.
Fun Things to Know1) About 196 million roses are grown for Valentine’s Day bouquets.
To give a more original (and longer lasting) gift, consider a potted plantor herb instead.
2) Forty-seven percent of Valentine gifts are candy. To burn off the1,050 calories in a box of chocolates, you’d need to go bowling for fivehours, walk for three hours or climb stairs for two hours.
3) The average person spends $116 each year on Valentine’s Day. A$116 investment with 8 percent interest over 25 years would earn $740.
4) Based on retail statistics, about 3 percent of pet owners will giveValentine’s Day gifts to their pets.

If you were to read a statementclaiming that exercise is physicallybeneficial, you most likelywouldn’t be surprised. Maybe justlast month you made a New Year’sresolution to exercise regularly. Inthe NH, we believe that exercise isa vital part of maintaining bothphysical and cognitive health.Studies have shown that exerciseis one of the top ways to maintainlong-term brain health. Moderateexercise like going for a walk for30 minutes a day is enough tomake a significant difference. Thatis why exercise is a part of the NHdaily routine. Depending on whatday you stop by, there is a varietyof exercise offered. The residentsparticipate in everything fromZumba, to chair aerobics, stretching, Yoga and even Tai Chi.Variety is the spice of life, after all.
After all that exercise you’ll be welldeserving of Bayle’s sweet surprise, inour dining room
Circle of Friends“Love is in the air” is a
common saying associated withFebruary and in the Circle ofFriends we want this to be true. Ithink we can all agree that love isone of the most pleasant thingswe can experience or give. TheCOF residents put their headstogether and thought of ways thatthey can fill this month with loveand care for the people in theirlives. Hopefully their ideas inspireyou.
