San Jose Christian School | October 5, 2015 Jenn’s Pen by: Mrs. Jennifer Thompson Well, that was just plain AWESOME! I’m talking about the Walk-a-Thon. When I was first introduced to San Jose Christian School a year and a half ago, I heard great things about this event. However, trying to visualize the event was a bit dicult. Now that I’ve been here and been in on a couple WAT meetings, I got a better sense, but nothing prepared me for the well-oiled machine that put on a great event! From set-up on Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning to cleanup in record time on Saturday afternoon, I was totally impressed. The volunteers who love this school pulled oanother gem. For those of you who came and participated, THANK YOU so much for your support. I enjoyed seeing students having a great time with friends and family, teachers supporting students as they walked together, sponsors supporting our school, and most importantly, a community who simply celebrated being together. The final count is still being totaled, but we have counted more than $44,000.00. WOW! Remember, these funds allow us to defray expenses for single day and multi-day field trips for our students JK – 8th. It also supports other campus items such as sand for the sandbox, student supplies and student activities, so ALL of the proceeds go directly back into our school to the benefit of your children. Personally, I’m already looking forward to next year!! How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1 Walk-A-Thon - WOW! A huge thank you to everyone who made the 12th Annual WAT a huge success. We are currently finalizing the total laps walked, total funds raised, 300 Club Participants and class winners. All details will be announced at the Fall Town Hall meeting on October 26th. Attached to the Tiger Tracks today is a list of all the drawing winners. Be sure to check it out. Coolers, Tables, & Canopies If you loaned us a cooler, table or canopy, please pick it up in front of the auditorium this a7ernoon. Mad Science Starts Next Monday! We are very excited that our sold-out Mad Science Club will start next Monday, October 12th. The class will be in room 7 (Mrs. DenOuden's room) and will run from 3:15-4:15. Please note that this time is a slight change from the flyer, in order that students will not have to check into extended care. Students who will attend the club should go with their class to pickup, then a teacher will escort them to room 7 at 3:15. Please do not go to room 7 early, because the instructor needs time to set up. October Box Tops Bring in your Box Tops during the month of October as part of a classroom competition. Fall Town Hall - Save the DateDon’t miss out on the Fall Town Hall on Monday, October 26, from 6:30pm - 8pm. in the newly renovated SJCS Auditorium. The goal of town hall meetings at SJCS is to provide a communication tool for our community. The Fall Town Hall Meeting provides the administration, faculty, and CPTA an opportunity to share important topics with school families, and it also gives attendees a chance to ask questions and have them answered. Topics covered are relevant to the timing of the school year. An additional intention of the meeting is to give insight to campus life. Topics of interest may be submitted to the administrative team in advance of the meeting. Contact: Community Development at 408-371-7741 ext. 231 for additional information.

SoftballThank you to our Tiger Fans who came out to support our season opener. The lady Tigers played well against the Baymonte team but ended short of the win. We look forward to facing Baymonte again later in the season. Please join us tomorrow as we face Achiever Christian School here at SJCS. Game time 3:30pm

Flag FootballThe Tigers went 1-2 this past week, picking up a win against Legacy Christian. The Tiger defense has been tough this year, coming up with some big plays in key situations. The boys will look to rally together for another busy week as they have three games.

Preschool Spotlight-Chapel!

Last week, we held our first Preschool Chapel! Students from the Butterfly, Dragonfly, Firefly, and Junior Kindergarten classes attended. This first chapel focused on Adam and Eve. Preschool chapels will occur on Friday mornings. It is one of a few new activities for the Preschool to engage in throughout the week.

Ms. Adrie did an amazing job planning this chapel! Everything was so carefully thought out and planned. Songs were fun, the discussion was perfect for the young audience, and above all else, God was present in a big way! It was such a joy to watch Ms. Adrie lead the students in worship and discussion. You can see that she is truly fulfilling one of God's calling for her! Students left with smiling faces and joyful hearts!

Teacher Tales—Buddy Programby Molly Nelson

One of the fantastic programs at SJCS is our Buddies Program. I just want to give you a peek at what some of our students have been doing so far this year. The 6th grade class has been paired up with the 2nd grade class for buddies. The students take time about every other week to spend time with each other- being silly with them, playing games, hanging out for the elementary recess, and even a little Zumba! The older students have been gracious with their buddies, showing them patience and encouragement. I am so proud of their willingness to jump right in!

Here are a couple pictures from last week’s buddy time. The 2nd graders were working on a project on the iPads about nutrition, and the 6th graders stepped in and helped them put their information together! They helped the 2nd graders so much and the younger ones loved showing off their hard work to their buddies! What a great community!
