Dear mIT alumni, family, and friends,

Welcome back to campus for Tech Reunions 2014. It has been a pleasure to become acquainted with so many alumni during the past year, and I look forward to meeting even more of you this weekend.

Tech Reunions is a great way to reconnect with mIT: not only will you see old friends, but you will also catch a glimpse of the future.

We kick off the weekend on Thursday at Symphony Hall with Tech Night at pops, now in its 117th year. On friday campus is abuzz with Commencement, led by a newly minted 50th reunion class in red jackets, while proud parents attend hooding ceremonies and snap pictures of mIT’s most recent alumni. During the day, you can learn what’s new at mIT through a variety of programs, like the Cardinal and Gray academy, special tours, and commencement receptions where you will meet graduating students, faculty, and alumni from your department.

Nothing highlights mIT’s historic and ongoing role in solving some of the world’s most pressing problems like Tech Day. This year’s program, The future of planet Earth, features faculty who are at the forefront of understanding our planet’s origins and what it will take to enable a sustainable future.

While you are on campus, be sure to spend time with your old friends and make some new ones too. visit your dorm or living group, participate in the Tech Challenge games, take a sail on the Charles River, or cheer on your classmates at Reunion Row on Sunday morning.

In the next few days, you will note many changes in the way mIT looks, but you will also observe that it continues to grow and inspire some of the most creative, intelligent and interesting people in the world. That’s a tradition we can all be proud of.

Welcome back to mIT, and enjoy your stay!

John Jarve ’78, Sm ’79 119th president mIT alumni association

MIT ALUMNI TRAVEL PROGRAM

New Zealand by Sea:Milford Sound to AucklandDecember 29, 2014 —January 11, 2015 With MIT Professor Ronald G. Prinn ScD ’71

Join fellow MIT alumni and friends on an 11-day cruise of New Zealand on the 114-passenger Caledonian Sky and see dramatic glacial ords, bubbling mud pots, tidy English gardens, tattooed Maori elders, and an untamed wilderness. Embark on naturalist-led Zodiac expeditions to the towering granite clis and the tumbling waterfalls of Dusky, Doubtful, and Milford Sounds, as well as seldom-visited Stewart Island, an ornithologist’s delight. During the program, Professor Prinn will talk about the dynamics of the climate system and the linkages between economics, technology, policy, climate processes, and ecosystems that drive global change.

We invite you to explore.

e Travel Program oers more than 35 educational trips each year. Visit the website to learn about the travel oerings, including the 2015 trip schedule.
