Joanna Walder, Sam Hudson top WYSE English division Two Hoopeston Area High School students took first and second place in the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Regional competition, a test of aptitudes in Mathemat- ics and Science, on Feb- ruary 4. Joanna Walder placed first and Sam Hudson second in the 41st re- gional competition spon- sored by Danville Area Community Colleges Math, Sciences & Health Professions division. Both advance to sectional competition March 12 at Eastern Illinois University, along with other individuals and teams placing first or second in their division. Additionally, Walder received a scholarship covering 24 credit hours at DACC, awarded by the school to the two highest ranking seniors competing at the Academic Challenge. Emma Hambley of Danville High School was the other recipient. Students were tested in seven different academic areas which included mathematics, physics, chemistry, biolo- gy, English, engineering graphics and computer sci- ence. Participating high schools, represented by nearly 156 students, included Armstrong Township, Bismarck- Henning—Rossville-Alvin, Chrisman, Danville, Georgetown-Ridge Farm, Hoopeston Area, Oakwood, Salt Fork, Shiloh and Westville.
