John Zachary, and the historian for the Cashiers Historical Society. A professional genealogist for over 30 years, she is an accomplished regional speaker and writes a monthly column for Laurel Magazine.

Are there any advantages to being a member of the Friends of the Albert Carlton Library? You bet! On June 13th we have a special event planned just for members. From 5 pm to 7 pm members will get first choice of all the wonderful books available at our annual Book Store Clearance Sale. The Books are free and donations are really appreciated. If you are not a member pick up a membership form at the check-out desk in the library, fill out the appropriate category, include a check, and you are good to go for.
Thursday-Saturday June 14-16FOL Book Clearance More than 3,000 “pre-owned books” will be sorted into categories and displayed on tables during the regular library hours.
Thursday 10-7, Friday 10am-5:30pm Saturday 10am – 1pm The books are free and donations are very much appreciated as this is a fund-raiser to buy new library books. FOL members will get first chance at the books on Preview Night,

Children love snakes. Bring all your little ones to see Ron Cromer, a specialist in herpetology, let the children touch and feel the reptiles. This is a “Hands On” science program to provide insight into the lives, habits, and characteristics of reptiles, especially snakes! They will experience a variety of gentile reptiles. Ron Cramer’s expertise and humor makes Snakes Alive an unforgettable educational experience.

On that day Halyburton became a prisoner of war that lasted seven and a half years. Friday August 10“Birds of Prey” Raptor Program,
Highlands Cashiers Land Trust 3pm“Raptor” is not a scientific classification but a catchall term used to refer to agile and powerful avian hunters such as eagles, hawks, falcons kites and owls. A Raptor expert will bring a group of the birds of prey from Balsam Mountain Trust for the upcoming presentation. The birds kept at
Balsam Mountain Trust can no longer effectively hunt and therefore cannot live in the wild. Their injuries are usually the result of accidents. The Trust rehabilitates them and used them for educational programs.

The Friends of the Cashiers Library urge Cashiers residents to sign up to read their favorite poems at the library’s Cashiers Favorite Poems Night Thursday, Aug 16th at 7:30. Those reading poems on stage will be
selected from area residents and visitors who have submitted the name and specific poem of their favorite poet. Submission forms are available at the library. The deadline for submissions is Aug 13.
