FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Well here we are again at the end of an amazing year. I would like to
thank all of you for your support again this year. Together we can
achieve marvellous things for our school and I feel privileged to be the
Principal of OGPS. We have a truly fantastic mix of students, staff and
parents all working for a common cause. It is a great place to work
Acknowledgments
As we finish the year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all
a very merry Christmas and prosperous 2019 filled with health and
happiness. For those of you that are leaving us, we wish you all the best
in the next chapters of your lives and thank you for your contribution to
our school.
We would like to wish Miss Gina Mets and Mr Adam Todd all the best for
their upcoming weddings, and we hope you have very special days.
Mrs Jo Fellowes is leaving us as a full-time teacher but, thankfully, will be
returning as a casual relief teacher. Mrs Ali Hillman is also leaving us and
taking up another teaching position at Donvale PS, and we wish her all
the very best.

Year Six Graduation
On Tuesday night we had a fabulous graduation celebration with our Year Six students. We are
very proud of this group of students who are well prepared to move on to secondary school.
As a staff, we loved sharing a meal with the children and having an opportunity to enjoy spending
this special time with them. A huge thankyou to the Year Six staff and graduation committee, who
worked tirelessly to make sure the night was so successful.
A hearty congratulations to the graduating class of 2018. We wish you all the best at secondary

Student Leaders for 2019
As you may be aware, the student leaders for 2019 have now been announced.
We go through a rigorous process that is based on merit to select our captains each year. We are
always thrilled at the number for students who stand for election and are proud that we are
helping instil such confidence in our students to be prepared to take a risk and put their ‘hat in the
ring’.
This year each candidate prepared a speech that incorporated our school values, and a leader
that they admired and why. The calibre of speeches was fantastic. They presented these
speeches to the senior school, and all the children voted (as did staff) before a final group of
candidates was short-listed. The students were then required to present their speeches in front of
the principal team and be prepared to answer questions. Discussion was then had amongst the
staff and, finally, the principal class, Year Five teachers and specialists came to the final
decision. The interesting thing is that the original student vote usually gets it right.
This year, for the first time, we have appointed a small group of School Ambassadors, who will
support our student leadership group. These children will have specific responsibilities around the
school and will be an important part of the student leadership group. I am very pleased to
announce the new captains and ambassadors for 2019. A terrific group of young people who I
believe will do a fabulous job.

CANTEEN NEWS
As 2018 draws to an end, it’s fair to suggest that it has been a fantastic year for many. I am sure
the students have had a great academic journey and a fun filled year of activities, camps,
excursions and learning.
Our canteen has been consistently busy and has provided the students with healthy, nutritious
lunches, along with the favourites of hot chocolate and slushies, which are extremely popular
treats.
The volunteer parents and I are looking forward to another successful canteen service in 2019. On
this note, I would wholeheartedly like to thank all of you who come along to assist me with this
service. I appreciate that you give up your time, whether it only be for an hour or a whole day. I
could not process and deliver the lunches without you. So, thank you for your support and I
certainly hope to see many of you next year. Hopefully we will have more new parents joining the
volunteer team next year. If anyone is interested in helping, please contact me or the office and I
will add you to the roster. The roster will be available the first day back in Term One.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy, positive and peaceful new
year. Best wishes always.
Happy Holidays to all parents, students and staff. Take time to relax, enjoy and recharge!
Merry Christmas!
