PRINCIPAL’S REPORT SCHOOL GOVERNANCE
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the School Council was held on Tuesday the 14th
of March . I have pleasure in announcing to the community that Stewart Winton was re-
elected as School Council president, Lynne Roberts was elected as the Community
member and Menik was re–elected as the Treasurer for 2017.
There is still one vacancy for a parent member position on the school Council. Please
contact the Principal Naomi Reed or contact the office if you would like to nominate for
this position. Thank you to Esin for volunteering to join the Fundraising committee. We
would like to see more parents coming along to these meetings held in the staffroom
each month. The next meeting is on Wednesday 29th March at 2:45 in the staffroom. All
parents are welcome to attend.
MEDICAL RECORDS & CONTACT DETAILS
We are currently updating the First aid documentation and family details. Thank you to
the parents who have updated asthma management plans, medical forms and personal
details. If your child has a medical condition, inform the school and complete the docu-
mentation so we can ensure the safety of all children at the school.
SCHOOL MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS
This week we have had the school fumigated and eliminated pests such as spiders and
ants from in and around the buildings. We have also had the aircons serviced and they
are working more efficiently during this hot spell of weather. Blinds will be installed in
the portable and in the Hall shortly and the classroom spaces with IWB and internet ac-
c e s s w i l l b e r e a d y f o r t h e s t a r t o f t e r m 2 .
It is against school rules to climb trees in the yard. The teachers have been speaking to
the children about playing safely and what that means. School maps have clearly de-
fined play areas and areas that are out of bounds. These areas are discussed during
whole school and team assemblies. Please reinforce the importance of playing safely
with your child/ children at home.
PARKING SAFETY
Locharn Crescent Student Drop Off: To keep students safe could all students be dropped
off at the curb side, use the footpath and enter the school grounds via the pedestrian
gate. The car park here is for staff only for the remainder of term 1. Please take note of
the parking restrictions in force on Cochrane Avenue, Merrick Street and Ashleigh Street.
The Council has been contacted regarding vehicles not adhering to VicRoads regulations
and will be regularly monitoring the surrounding streets.
When the building project commences in May-June, there will be no access to the
school via Locharn Cresent at all. The current staff car park will become the builder’s
compound and consequently is out of bounds to the school community. The pedestrian
gate will be closed for safety reasons and the children will enter the school via Merricks
street or Cochrane avenue gates.

LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM
MINDFUL LISTENING/ HONESTY
At Life Skills Group, we believe that mindful listening and communication are important areas of growth
and development in children. In week two, Life Skills teachers reviewed the important value of honesty
through the focus of mindful listening. Students learnt how to listen mindfully by concentrating on
specific sounds. They practiced staying really still and quiet while they listened to a soothing sound. This
listening activity helped students understand that there is always noise around us, but we can actually
train our brain to focus on one sound at a time. Additionally, students began to explore listening to their
own bodies. By using breath to stay focused and feel movements, students learnt to become aware of
how they actually feel physically and emotionally. With awareness we begin to understand what may be
creating our feelings. Students discovered how concentration helps develop a focused mind, a feeling of
calm and where these skills could be applied in their lives. The games this week taught students how to
not only be honest with themselves, but also to be an honest participant of a team. Along the way
learning spatial awareness and body awareness too!
Parents/Carers: Ask your child to show you the mindfulness/breathing activity they participated in this
week and how or when it could help us. Reinforcement is the key.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Being mindful of breath and using breath to keep us in the present moment was taught to all of our
students this week. This technique cultivates awareness of self and others and a strong aptitude for
curiosity and learning. This week’s class plan gave students the opportunity to discuss different ways they
could work as an individual within a team and collectively as a team in order to successfully participate in
cooperative class games. Sportsmanship can show a lot about our character. When children learn good
sportsmanship and healthy collaboration with peers they can begin to demonstrate graceful winning and
losing. With increased partner work and team work we focus on cultivating positive relationships and
building community. The activities aligned with this week’s value and explored effective communication of
ideas, listening to one another, encouraging each other, sharing responsibilities and making decisions that
would benefit the whole team. Through engaging games and incorporating fundamental movements,
students were able to put their ideas into practise!
Children demonstrated cooperation by working together and being really helpful team players. Students
gave examples of how we can cooperate in the classroom, home and playground. By being an active
participant in the class, the children were able to recognise how much can be achieved when working
with others in positive ways. Through communication with one another, listening and collaborating the
whole team benefits, not just themselves.
Parents/carers: Ask your child to demonstrate the breath/mindfulness they learned this week or a
movement they enjoyed.

School Banking Remember, Thursday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly
deposit.
For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once
students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive
School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school, raising 5% on every deposit made
through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed
envelope with a note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a
replacement.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Chandler Park Primary
School. We would also like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School
Banking Co-ordinators and process our banking every week.

I SEA, I CARE EXCURSION
On Thursday 2nd of March, a group of 5/6 students went to Ricketts Point. We were
selected as I Sea , I Care Ambassadors. We went there to learn about sea life. The
first thing I did was search for sea life in seaweed. It was very challenging for me
and my friends because you had to take the animals off the sea weed. Don’t worry
we put them somewhere safe. I also forgot to tell you the other people who came
were, Pooja, Blade, Palak, Meral, Paul, Adam and Catlin.
We also got to go to the rock pools. We just saw crabs and shells but the fun bit was going to the
beach to snorkel. l saw a small fish. One of the teachers found a sea urchin. It had spikes but you could
see it walking. I had an amazing time snorkelling! We also found an elephant snail. It had a beautiful
black outside and a snail inside. When we got back in the mini bus after we had finished, we got our
badges. They were golden with blue and they said, ‘I Sea I Care Ambassador.’ By Elmin
Thursday 2nd March 2017—I was chosen to be a marine ambassador with Pooja,
Palak, Meral, Blade, Elmin, Adam and Paul and some groups from other schools.
We looked through sea grass to find what tiny sea creatures hide in it, we walked
around some rock pools and last of all what I think was the best was snorkelling.
After all of it we got little badges that said “I Sea I Care” Ambassador.
Sea Grass- For the sea grass we went into groups of 4 my group was with Palak,
Pooja and Meral. If found a creature we would put under a microscope and it
would come up on a computer. My group found sea worms they were soo small and
wiggly we also found a shrimp, another group found some sort of star fish. Rock
Pools- When we went to the rock pools we got a sheet so we knew what we were looking at. We
found a sea sponge, crabs, sea snails and other things. Snorkelling- For snorkelling we wore a wetsuit,
Flippers and a mask with a straw. When we got in the water we had to walk a trail so we could swim. I
was so far by the time we got in because I was soo excited, we started
swimming and I saw a stripy fish and some other long skinny fish. After
snorkelling, we go hot Milo, it was delicious. By Caitlin P
Seven students, including myself were lucky to be selected go on an excursion to
Ricketts point. What we did there was awesome! we did snorkelling. We went
to a rock pool and learnt about the ocean. We also learnt about what lives in
sea grass. We found out about little sea creatures and lots of different
sponges. After that, we got to go to the rock pool to look for different species
of sea animas, shells and an octopus. Then the best part of the day was
snorkelling. We wore wetsuits for the first time and went snorkelling. We
spotted many different creatures and even a sea urchin! A big thank you to Mrs
McCrimmon for taking us on the I sea I care program. By Blade J, 5/6A

LEADING THE WAY PROGRAM
By Elvis, Nelson, Alisa and Elli
It was the 6th of March and the Chandler Park School Captains went to Heather Hill
Primary School with five other schools. The reason why we went there was to become more
of an effective leader. There were roughly 50 kids. Some of the activities we did were
Widgets Factory, Green Hat Workshop and Coach Approach. The activities we did were
based on teamwork.
The next day, all of us went to Mt Morton. There were four different camp activities,
Flying Fox, Giant Swing, Initiative activities (leadership activities) and Hut Building.
Everyone’s favourite activity was the Giant Swing and the best thing was we got free icy
poles at lunch. We got into four different groups and Elli was separated from everyone
else in Chandler Park. Mrs Leslie took so many photos of all of us.
We had so much fun
but we missed all of
our friends from the
other schools.

ST KILDA FOOTY CLUB VISIT
If there was one word to
describe Nick Riewoldt
and Jason Homes visit
here it would be
“interesting”. They talked
about themselves and
asked us about our
dreams. They talked
about their injuries and I
nearly screamed. They
taught us some footy skills
those skills I won’t forget.
When I saw Zyhan kick,
she had lots of sweat.
Nick and Jason kicked a
big goal from at least a
mile away. When I
walked out from that visit
I had a big smile.

INTERSCHOOL SPORTS
Every Thursday, the 5/6s compete in the interschool sports. In the 1st round, there was a BYE. We won the second round against Keysborough Primary School, the mixed team scored 8 to 4. In the 3rd round we went to Mt Hira. They were a pretty tough side but we won, 7 to 5. We have two rounds left, against Wallarano
Primary School and then Clayton South Primary School. Hopefully we make it to finals! Omaid F, 5/6A
CRICKET
Everyone says that cricket is boring but I disagree. Cricket is so fun. Last week we played against Mt Hira
College, we all played our best but we lost. They were good, that’s what everyone said, but I stood up and
said that we are better than them even if we lose, we will still be champions!!! Claire 5/6D
BASKETBALL GIRLS
The basketball girls’ team played against Mt.Hira in. The girls enjoyed playing even though it was a tough
game. The girls scored 14 and Mt.Hira scored 8. We were so happy that we won. GO GIRLS.
BASKETBALL BOYS
The basketball boys’ team played against Mt.Hira. It was a tough game for them. The boys scored 6 and
Mt.Hira also scored 6 which means they ended up having a draw. Even though it was a draw they still
enjoyed it. GO BOYS. Jessica Nguyen 5/6E
