Why tell our story?
• MCH trainee-led program with multiple disciplines
• Encourage other MCH programs and trainees to create more mentorship/ pipeline programs to recruit students from underserved areas
• Increase diversity in MCH health related professions
Our Story
• In 2016, the AL MCH Network partnered with a local high school to provide a pipeline experience for students enrolled in the Academy of Health Sciences program
• Mentors meet with students one-on-one quarterly
• Over 3 years, the program has expanded
• 3rd cohort • Requirement for 10th grade students (~25 adolescents)
• Monthly didactics related to professional skills and educational success
• AY 2018-2019 we have 2 MCH H.O.P.E.S. Senior Interns who are participating in UAB LEAH weekly didactics, shadowing and presentations
