Grade 12 Students:

In this information handout you will find contacts, mailing

addresses, application criteria and deadlines of various

scholarships, bursaries and awards. Please also watch and listen

for MEMOS and ANNOUNCEMENTS on various scholarships in

your Home Room. Many universities and colleges, businesses, and

organizations offer scholarships, bursaries and awards that you may

seek out through advertisements, word of mouth, and the internet.

The responsibility lies with you, the student, to investigate any and

all avenues where these scholarships, bursaries and awards may be

offered.

As mentioned, be sure to watch daily announcements, check

out This Week At Three Oaks, home room for memos, and the

Bursary Board in Student Services. These will give you all pertinent

information regarding various awards. Please be aware of the

“deadline” dates...these are very important. On average, the

information arrives the month prior to when the bursary is due.

As we approach the end of the school year, scholarships,

bursaries and awards start appearing quickly and often will have

shorter deadline dates. Many of these may require a copy of your

transcript, letters of recommendation, or perhaps an essay. Be sure

to allow yourself and staff members time to prepare any of these

requirements.

You are encouraged to read through this booklet to see what

you may qualify for. If you are uncertain of any of the information,

such as whether you meet the requirements...please, just ask.

Have a great and successful year!

- The progress of the applicants will be monitoredthroughout the school year as facilitated by thecounselors in Student Services. In June theinformation will be reviewed and the Student ServicesDepartment will determine the five recipients ofscholarships. These candidates will be presented withtheir scholarships at the high school graduation

ceremonies, by a member of the Rotary Club ofSummerside. Recipients will also be recognized withcertificates at a breakfast meeting of the Rotary Club.

- Students who are accepted into STRIVE in their senioryear are offered an opportunity to “strive” for an entryscholarship to college, university, or a minimum twentyweek approved post-secondary training program. Thisinvolves a commitment between the student, theThree Oaks High School and the Rotary Club ofSummerside, wherein academic and counselingsupport is provided by the school, personal membercommitment and a $1,000.00 scholarship is promisedby the Rotary Club, and a change in work habits, attendance and study practice is promised by thestudent. Rather than having the criteria based solelyon high grades as with most scholarships, STRIVElooks at efforts to improve, and a student can show amove from ‘D’s to ‘C’s and still emerge with ameaningful entrance scholarship.

- The STRIVE Scholarship Program designates 5scholarships per year valued at $1,000 each, providedby the Rotary Club. Scholarships will be awardedtowards tuition at UPEI, Holland College or any other
