YR10 Design Ventura Competition
In year 10 Design Technology the students have been working
in teams on design ideas to be entered for this year’s Design
Ventura competition. Thousands of schools across the country
take part in this competition which is run by the Design
Museum and sponsored by the Deustche Bank.
The teams of students have been designing products around
the theme of ‘change’. The winning design will be made and
then sold in the Design Museum shops. This is a great
opportunity for the students to work on a real design task that
has to be aimed at a certain target market, designed, modelled
and costed – just like on the ‘Apprentice’. Our 2 classes of
budding entrepreneurs submitted 11 ideas to Ms Steel, Ms
Easington and Mrs Brookes to judge.
The winning team were Teddy Brush, Michael Tigin-Gerber,
Alec Jafrato, Toby Daniels and they designed a way to ‘change’
how we drink tea and eat cookies by inventing the ‘Hookie’ – a
cookie holder that hooks onto your cup. This is an early
prototype and fingers crossed they will get a chance to develop
it into production. Please see images on the top right of this
page.

Thursday 3rd November 8.30am to 4.30pm
Squid payment: ITV Little Big Shots £14.50
On Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th October, Year 7 took part in a whole-day workshop learning the five basic
actions that the GCSE Dance curriculum is focused around. Mrs Dunkley used to work at LPSB last year and
returned to teach 7C, 7D, 7Y and 7Z in the studio within the PE Department. Mrs Willis, Head of Dance delivered
the workshop to 7A, 7B, 7W and 7X in the Performance Hall. Students demonstrated different ways of travelling,
turning, jumping, moments of stillness and a range of creative gestures. Students developed their choreography
with unison, canon and set formations within small groups. Communication, team work, creativity and focus was
required, which Year 7 excelled in! For period four, students created their own choreography on the five basic
actions and produced highly creative choreography. To end both days, year 7 performed to each other one at a
time in the Performance Hall. The year 7s demonstrated incredible stage presence, confidence
and stage discipline! The Dance Department were highly impressed with the students focus,
behaviour and effort during the day and were delighted with their overall performances! Thank
you very much to the staff and students who supported the day. We hope to see more students
involved in the extra curricular dance club, Tuesdays after school in studio 801. Please follow
the LPSB dance Instagram account to see more photos of the workshops and other dance
events at LPSB.

Sixth Form Sixth Form Progress Review DataData has now been collated
on every Sixth Form student’s progress in their subjects. All
students in Year 12 and Year 13 will receive an update on their
progress; Year 12 students will receive a copy of their flight
path, and Year 13 students will receive a report. Form Tutors,
Assistant Heads of Year, or Heads of Year will be in touch with
students for whom we have more serious concerns.
Sixth Form Assessment Week
The next Sixth Form Assessment Week takes in two weeks’
time. All students will sit an assessment style task in each of
their subjects. Students should ensure they are well-prepared
and that their classwork and homework notes are in order.
Sixth Form Parents’ Meetings – Dates for your Diaries
Our next Year 12 Parents’ Meetings take place on Thursday
24th November. Our next Year 13 Parents’ Meetings take place
on Thursday 1st December.
The Great LPSB Bake-Off
As a Sixth Form, we will be raising money for ‘Hope Health
Action’ in response to the aid crisis following Hurricane
Matthew. On Friday 21st October, Year 12 students raised more
than £400. This Friday 4th November, Year 13 students are
invited to bring in a cake to be entered into our Bake-Off. The
Head of Year 13, Mr Butterworth, will judge all entrants. Any
student may enter a cake. All students will be invited to share
the cakes entered by members of their tutor group for a
donation of £1 each. Prizes will be awarded for the best cake,
and for the tutor group that raises the most money.
Bromley Rotary Club Youth Award
Students are invited to nominate themselves and each other
for a ‘Rotary Club of Bromley’ award. Nominations can be
made for students who go above and beyond to help others in
their community, for example by helping sick children, disabled
or elderly people, looking after sick relatives, working to
improve the environment, or organising an event to raise
money for charity. Anyone interested in nominating
themselves, or another student, should ask for a nomination
form from Reception. When nominating others, students must
ensure that the person they nominate is happy to be
nominated. For more information, go to the website
www.bromleyrotaryclub.org.uk
Independent Learning Conference
This Thursday sees our Year 12 Independent Learning
Conference. Steve and Meg from the Life Skills Company will
be in running a two hour workshop designed to help Year 12
students develop their skills in areas such as note taking, speed

in the Performance Hall, during periods 3 and 4. All Year 12
students will be off timetable for this event and must bring a
pen and a large exercise book to lean on.

their time with us in the Sixth Form, we offer all Year 13
students the opportunity to purchase a Yearbook and Hoody.
Letters have gone out via form tutors. There will only be on

UCAS Applications
As per the email sent to Year 13 parents and carers on the 28th
September, if your son or daughter is intending to apply
through UCAS, they should have arranged a Batch Deadline with
their Form Tutor. We would strongly advise all students to have
their application sent off before the end of November, as
universities are already beginning to make offers to students
whose applications have already been submitted. Once your son
or daughter has signed up for a Batch Deadline, they must
ensure that they have completed stage six on the attached UCAS
checklist before their deadline.
Support with UCAS Applications
All Year 13 students applying to university must make an
appointment with Miss Ivy in Hub 3 to go through the online
element of their UCAS application (Stage 3 on their UCAS card).
Miss Ivy is available Monday to Thursday and students can make

In the early 1950s, Eddie Mannix is busy at work trying to solve all the
problems of the actors and filmmakers at Capitol Pictures. His latest
assignments involve a disgruntled director, a singing cowboy, a
beautiful swimmer and a handsome dancer. As if all this wasn't
enough, Mannix faces his biggest challenge when Baird Whitlock gets
kidnapped while in costume for the swords-and-sandals epic "Hail,
Caesar!" If the studio doesn't pay $100,000, it's the end of the line for
the movie star.
