• Probably Not• What is the benefit of studying more than 3?

• Linear A Levels are different and harder than oldersiblings might have experienced

• Changes to options made by 20th September(tomorrow)

Sorry, but GCSEs are pretty easy – most people pass them; they are not called General certificates for nothing

You were fed ‘correct’ answers… … and led towards your target grade!

From spoon-feeding and hand-holding to losing your ‘stabilisers and choosing your own route.

A levels are not easy – many people mess them up; let’s face it, they are called Advanced level

But now you will just get a push… … and have to work out your own way!

Directed Learning (DL)

• Mornings only• Students must spend these periods studying

and they are registered by a designated member of staff

• From that point onwards, they should be spent on the school site in Year 13

• However, as long as there is work to do, students can sign in and out

This is a privilege that we reserve the right to remove if attendance and/or academic performance is deemed to be unsatisfactory

Page 16: Welcome to Rosebery Sixth Form · 05/01/2017 Yr13 Mock A Level (1) Exams Begin 15/01/2017 UCAS Final Deadline 16/01/2017 Yr13 Return - Follow-Up Inteviews Begin 26/01/2017 Yr13 Parents

How much Study?• It is recommended that A Level students match

their time (hours) spent learning in the classroomwith independent work outside

• Is Independent Work the same as Homework?

• Students should be spending (at least) 4 hours per week on each A Level Subject

• A Level success will not happen by just turning up and completing tasks set by teachers

Page 18: Welcome to Rosebery Sixth Form · 05/01/2017 Yr13 Mock A Level (1) Exams Begin 15/01/2017 UCAS Final Deadline 16/01/2017 Yr13 Return - Follow-Up Inteviews Begin 26/01/2017 Yr13 Parents

Subject Folders• Subject Folders are a student’s revision notes,

proof of progress and evidence of independentstudy

• They must be looked after, kept organised, tidy, updated and taken to every lesson

• Each Subject Folder should have;A Subject Syllabus/SpecificationA tick list to monitor progress through the aboveA section with all Assessed WorkClear evidence that study is taking place beyond lessons

Page 19: Welcome to Rosebery Sixth Form · 05/01/2017 Yr13 Mock A Level (1) Exams Begin 15/01/2017 UCAS Final Deadline 16/01/2017 Yr13 Return - Follow-Up Inteviews Begin 26/01/2017 Yr13 Parents

Who Can Help?• Subject Staff

• If you are struggling with your subject, talk tothem first. They may be able to explain how toresolve the issue straight away

• Think about choosing a time outside of a lessonwhen you can have their undivided attention –they are very busy people, but they do want thebest for you

Page 20: Welcome to Rosebery Sixth Form · 05/01/2017 Yr13 Mock A Level (1) Exams Begin 15/01/2017 UCAS Final Deadline 16/01/2017 Yr13 Return - Follow-Up Inteviews Begin 26/01/2017 Yr13 Parents

The Importance of Attendance

A research paper commissioned by Alps confirmed the following;

• If you compare students of equal ‘ability’ – those with attendance of over 95% perform one grade higher per subject than those with attendance of 85% or less

• Each further 10% fall reduces this by another grade

N.B. One week (5 days) away per year during term time = a 3% fall in attendance
