Whenever you see a red slide like this, it’s not part of the PowerPoint. These are directional slides which give you tips.

I’ve annotated my slides with notes so you can see what I did to meet the required elements; you SHOULD NOT add comments like I did.

I did my PowerPoint on “the three little pigs” just so you could get a basic idea of how yours should look.

The first slide you should have is a title slide…click next to view my title slide.

Shawn
A visual aid...not nessesary, but definitely useful on this slide.
Shawn
You need to have your name on this slide
Shawn
You also need a title. Yours should read "Odyssey Comprehension PowerPoint"

The next slide contains my short story summary.

Make sure you have looked at the “bad powerpoint” file in the important docs folder so you know how to make good bullets and graphics on your powerpoint!

The Story… Three little pigs are sent off by their mother to make a living for

themselves.

The three pigs decide to build houses.

Each pig builds a house out of a different type of material. One builds of straw, one builds of sticks, and one builds of bricks.

One day a wolf comes along and wants to eat the pigs. He easily blows down the first to pigs’ houses.

At the third house he can not blow it down and is burned will trying to go down the chimney.

The next two slides are examples of timelines. I gave two examples so you could see there are many different ways in which your timelines can be done.

On PowerPoint 2007 or 2010, go up to the top and click “insert” and then “smart art” That will allow you to insert a graphic, like a timeline

This next timeline example is a timeline that is spread over several slides. On each slide I give the name of the event and a visual aid.

A slide that just had a name at the top with nothing else would be pretty boring, wouldn’t it? That’s why the visual aid is helpful.

I didn’t do the whole story in this timeline, just a few slides so you could get the idea. Obviously, you’ll need to have the whole story on yours.

Hopefully you now have an idea of what you want to do for your timeline.

Next up is my detailed account of an event. I just did one event to show you how it should look, but remember, you have to do THREE events from your timeline.

Also, remember your requirements for the events! I’ve made comments on mine on the next page so you can recognize the requirements and distinguish them from one another.

Page 13: This slideshow will help you with your Comprehension PowerPoint Artifact

The wolf is burned in the Chimney When the big bad wolf finally gets

to the 3rd pigs house he is unable to blow it down because it is brick.

The three little pigs wait inside the house while the wolf stays outside trying to get in.

Eventually, the wolf gives up and tries to get in through the chimney but ends up being lit on fire!

This is a turning point in the story because up until now the pigs have had to run to escape the wolf. Now, it’s the wolf’s turn to suffer!

Shawn
This is the name of the event. If you go back and look at my first timeline, you will see this event is in it.
Shawn
Summary of the event
Shawn
This bullet tells you who is involved and it also gives more summary of the event.
Shawn
This bullet tells you how it turned out and it also still summarizes the event for you
Shawn
This bullet tells you why the event is important to the story

The next slide summarizes a character from the story.

Again, I’m only doing one character just so you get the basic idea; but remember, you have to do THREE characters!

Also, I’ve made comments again, so you can see how I fulfilled the requirements.

Page 15: This slideshow will help you with your Comprehension PowerPoint Artifact

The big bad wolf Main antagonist in the story of the three

little pigs. Throughout the story, he is trying to eat the pigs.

He Goes from house to house blowing down the houses. He cant blow the brick house down He burns himself tying to get in through the

chimney.

At the beginning of the story the wolf is very intimidating and the pigs are seriously afraid of him. By the end, though, he’s been burned and defeated and no longer poses a serious threat to the pigs, and so he’s not so intimidating anymore.

The next slide is for a theme I thought was in the story.

Remember, if you think the story has a certain theme, then you need to support that with evidence from the text. See your Artifact Sheet for examples of acceptable evidence.

Also, remember you need to do at least TWO themes.

Page 17: This slideshow will help you with your Comprehension PowerPoint Artifact

Theme Don’t take shortcuts, if you do you’ll pay for it later

The 3rd little pig warns his brothers that they shouldn’t settle for straw and stick houses.

They don’t listen and chose to use straw and brick because it’s cheaper and easier to builder their houses.

In the end, though, they end up going to the third little pig’s house because it’s the only safe place because he didn’t take the easy road out.

Hopefully this gave you a better understanding of what it is you need to have in your Comprehension PowerPoint Artifact.

If you have ANY questions at all, come and talk to me!

And don’t for get to look at the “bad powerpoint” presentation in the important docs folder.
