This guide is here to help you on sections that you may become stuck on.

The guide will explain each page and what is on each page. The way the pages are layout are only a suggestions

and you are more then welcome to change it to suit your design.

Remember be original

Introduction:

On this section you should discuss what information will be on this page!

E.G. On this page I wil be looking at ………………………. This is because……….

Conclusion:

What new information have you found on this page? And how has it helped you?

Design Brief:

A design brief is you explaining your project, How long its going to take,

What you hope to learnAnd why you are doing this project

Needs:

In this section you need to discuss the needsOn the project, and the needs of the user.

What does the project have to do, or Trying to achieve?

What does the person using it want it to do?

Specification:

This needs to be say what your project needsTo be and not be.

e.g. it must not have sharp edges because………..

( you must have a reason for each point)

They need to be under the following headings:

•Aesthetics•Cost

•User Needs•Environment

•Safety•Sustainability

•Function•Material

•Social & moral•Ergonomics

You need at least 10 specification points

Situation:

Put your product in a real life situation( you are trying to solve a problem)

Try and find some facts off the internet toSupport what you are saying

e.g. I will be making this for my little cousinBecause …………….

On the internet try to find some data toSupport your situation

Brain storm:

Questions that you have about thatproject

Picture relating to the project

Introduction:

On this section you should discuss what information will be on this page!

E.G. On this page I wil be looking at ………………………. This is because……….

Conclusion:

What new information have you found on this page? And how has it helped you?

Mood board

On this page you need to add images that relate to your project, these can be any images as long as they are appropriate.

History

Discuss the history surrounding the product you wish to investigate.

What is this products relevance to people? Use dates and pictures to describe the development of this product throughout history.

When?

Why is it important to conduct this

research at this point in the project?

What?

What research pages will you be doing. Highlight each page.

User Needs, Mood board, Material Analysis, Component research & a questionnaire.

Why?

How will each page help me? Briefly Identify each section outlining how it will help you.

How?

How will you conduct this information? What tools will you be using to do your research…..internet, books etc

ConclusionWhat have you learnt from the information you have researched on this page? Briefly summarise the findings from the graphs

In this section you should ask 6 questions in relation to your project such as:

“ how much would you want to pay for…..”

“ what material would you like it to be made from?”

Which colour LEDs would you like to have?

It is important that theses questions are focused towards the project as this will give you a understanding of your target market

You will then need to put your results into a range of different graphs

Conclusion

What does this graph show & how will it influence my design research?

Add details of your email here to a mass producing company that sells products similar to what you wish to make such as IKEA. Print screen the email and paste it here.

Up sections

On the following four pages you will need to come up a range of different design ideas,

(four different designs in total).

Your annotations need to be in written detail. Explain your idea showing how it will work, show close up of sections, discuss what material you will be using and the finish on the material.

Show where the circuitry will fit inside.

Remember, when annotating use the specification points as a guide. By using the specifications points as a reference it will show you are designing to a set guide rather than making it up

You should have 4 design ideas, they need to be different from each other.

Your annotations should highlight:

•Material used

•Manufacturing process

•Joints

•Show how your product will work

• Explain your idea

•Compare it against your specification

(under each heading)

Add picture of your model here

IntroductionWhat will you be showing on this page? How will it help your GCSE coursework?

ConclusionHow has this page helped you to understand what you might make? (be specific, mention key areas)Size, ergonomics, dimensions, materials , target market etc

How were the models put together? What materials have you used? What manufacturing processes & equipment have you used to make the model?

How would you make individual sections (such as the casing) if it was your final GCSE product? What materials would you use?

You must annotate and describe the function of individual sections of your model (don’t use small comments such as ‘aesthetically pleasing’ or ‘good size’ describe how its aesthetically pleasing and why it is a good size.

Annotate the model in each view
