of God that is crucial to understand: since we are made in the image and likeness of God, He gives us countless opportunities to turn from our sinful ways and renew our faith. He recognizes our inherent goodness and places Himself within reach. As we see in the Gospel

today with Zacchaeus, our job is to meet God halfway and be ready to let go of anything holding us back from a virtuous life in Him. Take a moment to ask

yourselves how far you would go to remain close to Our Lord as Zacchaeus did.

School News South Boston Catholic Academy

students celebrated All Saints Day with a school wide Mass at St. Brigid. The third grade class

attended TV Mass at Catholic TV where they dressed as their favorite saints.

Operation Gratitude, lead by the Student Council, began this week. Students are collecting Halloween

candy to ship overseas to our troops. Our Open House for prospective families is on

Respect Life Month Rosary Rally--THANK YOU

Thank you to all who participated in our 2019 Rosary Rally on October 12. The rain held off and we were able to pray the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet the Litany of

Mary, and the Divine Praises, as well as sing hymns and hand out 34 handmade rosaries to passersby. Thank you

all for your witness for life!

The South Boston YAC invites you to join us Wednesday, November 6 from 6:30-8:00pm at the

Laboure Center, 275 W. Broadway, for an informational session about T.E.A.M. (Together

Engaging Adolescents through Mentoring), a program of Catholic Charities. T.E.A.M. connects neighborhood residents ages 8-16 with mentors, who pledge to meet with their mentee for two hours per week for one year. Mentors build relationships with young people in need

Welcome to Fr. Karlo Horcurscak Cardinal Sean O'Malley has appointed Fr. Karlo to our Parishes beginning this weekend! Fr. Karlo was ordained for the Archdiocese of Boston 5 years ago. Since that time he has been parochial vicar and Pastor of the Parishes in the Beverly Collaborative - St Mary, St John

and St Margaret Parishes. Welcome Fr. Karlo! From Fr. Karlo: “My journey to the priesthood was a little different in that I did not grow up thinking I would be a priest. I grew up in southwest Connecticut and ended up coming to Worcester for college where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from WPI. After working 3 years in membrane filtration, for the next 7 years I worked as both a support engineer and developer. Having been a practicing Catholic all my life and having a pastor that encouraged me to think about the priesthood, I believed that I might have a vocation. I applied through Boston’s vocation office and was accepted at St. John’s Seminary. After ordination, I was assigned to Beverly where I served as parochial vicar for 3 years and pastor for the past 2 years. I am looking forward to serving you and helping to continue the work of the Gospel in South Boston.”

October 25th - Update on Gate of Heaven Parking Lot

Over the summer months the parish and archdiocese have actively sought bids to complete the parking lot construction.

We have worked to get better pricing on the excavation and paving so that we can complete the project this fall. WE NEED YOUR

FINANCIAL SUPPORT to finish the project. We were hoping this work would begin this fall - but due to

many constraints we may have to wait until March to begin the work. We hope that our Grand Annual

Collection this year will help with the rising cost of the paving and landscaping of our new parking lot.

Thank you for your patience and support. We know that the property will look beautiful when the con-

struction is complete! Our goal for the Gate of Heaven Grand Annual is $100,000. If all of our Parishioners

participated in the Grand Annual - we would be able to move forward with this project. The Archdiocese will not allow us to conclude this project until we have all

the financing in place.
